چکیده

The lattice Boltzmann (LB) method is used to study the kinetics of domain growth of a binary fluid in a number of geometries modeling porous media. Unlike the traditional methods which solve the Cahn-Hilliard equation, the LB method correctly simulates fluid properties, phase segregation, interface dynamics and wetting. Our results, based on lattice sizes of up to 4096× 4096, do not show evidence to indicate the breakdown of late stage dynamical scaling, and suggest that confinement of the fluid is the key to the slow kinetics observed. Randomness of the pore structure appears unnecessary. Department of Mathematics, Colorado State University, Ft. Pore-scale mass and reactant transport in multiphase porous media flows

Reactive processes associated with multiphase flows play a significant role in mass transport in unsaturated porous media. For example, the effect of reactions on the solid matrix can affect the formation and stability of fingering instabilities associated with the invasion of a buoyant non-wetting fluid. In this study, we focus on the formation and stability of capillary channels of a buoyant ...

Application of Homotopy Perturbation Method to Nonlinear Equations Describing Cocurrent and Countercurrent Imbibition in Fractured Porous Media

In oil industry, spontaneous imbibition is an important phenomenon in recovery from fractured reservoirs which can be defined as spontaneous uptake of a wetting fluid into a porous solid. Spontaneous imbibition involves both cocurrent and countercurrent flows. When a matrix block is partially covered by water, oil recovery is dominated by cocurrent imbibition i.e. the production of non wettin...

To Express Required CT-Scan Resolution for Porosity and Saturation Calculations in Terms of Average Grain Sizes

Despite advancements in specifying 3D internal microstructure of reservoir rocks, identifying some sensitive phenomenons are still problematic particularly due to image resolution limitation. Discretization study on such CT-scan data always has encountered with such conflicts that the original data do not fully describe the real porous media. As an alternative attractive approach, one can recon...

From Capillary Fingering to Viscous Flow in Two-Dimensional Porous Media: Role of the Wetting Properties

Microfluidics device are used to study the drainage of a wetting fluid by a non-wetting one in porous media. Both the geometry and the wetting properties are accurately controlled and allow to obtain quantitative measurements of the features of the capillary fingering occuring during the invasion as a function of the imposed flow rate. In partial wetting systems, a quantitative agreement is fou...

Axi-Symmetric Deformation Due to Various Sources in Saturated Porous Media with Incompressible Fluid

The general solution of equations of saturated porous media with incompressible fluid for two dimensional axi-symmetric problem is obtained in the transformed domain. The Laplace and Hankel transforms have been used to investigate the problem. As an application of the approach concentrated source and source over circular region have been taken to show the utility of the approach. The transforme...
