چکیده

The projected rotational velocity distribution for a sample of 34 high Galactic latitude B-type stars from the Edinburgh-Cape Faint Blue Object Survey is presented to investigate the evolutionary status of the group as a whole. Statistical analyses of the distribution show it to be similar to that expected if the sample contained mainly normal Population i early B-type stars, although a contamination of up to 20 % by evolved stars cannot be ruled out. This implies that a large fraction of the sample consists of normal Population i B-type stars similar to those found in the Galactic disk. Possible mechanisms explaining the presence of these stars in the halo are briefly discussed.

The Edinburgh – Cape Blue Object Survey – III . Zone 2 ; galactic latitudes − 30 ◦ > b > − 40 ◦

The Edinburgh–Cape Blue Object Survey seeks to identify point sources with an ultraviolet excess. Results for zone 2 of the survey are presented here, covering that part of the South Galactic Cap between 30◦ and 40◦ from the Galactic plane and south of about −12. ◦3 of declination. Edinburgh–Cape zone 2 comprises 66 UK Schmidt Telescope fields covering about 1730 deg2, in which we find some 892...

The VLT-FLAMES survey of massive stars: atmospheric parameters and rotational velocity distributions for B-type stars in the Magellanic Clouds⋆

Aims. We aim to provide atmospheric parameters and rotational velocities of a large sample of Oand early B-type stars, analysed in a homogeneous and consistent manner, for use in constraining theoretical models. Methods. Atmospheric parameters, stellar masses and rotational velocities have been estimated for approximately 250 early B-type stars in the Large (LMC) and Small (SMC) Magellanic Clou...

Stellar Rotation in Young Clusters . I . Evolution of Projected Rotational Velocity Distributions

Open clusters offer us the means to study stellar properties in samples with well-defined ages and initial chemical composition. Here we present a survey of projected rotational velocities for a large sample of mainly B-type stars in young clusters to study the time evolution of the rotational properties of massive stars. The survey is based upon moderate resolution spectra made with the WIYN 3...

The VLT-FLAMES survey of massive stars: rotation and nitrogen enrichment as the key to understanding massive star evolution

Rotation has become an important element in evolutionary models of massive stars, specifically via the prediction of rotational mixing. Here, we study a sample of stars including rapid rotators to constrain such models and use nitrogen enrichments as a probe of the mixing process. Chemical compositions (C, N, O, Mg and Si) have been estimated for 135 early B-type stars in the Large Magellanic C...

Rotational velocities of A - type stars ⋆ III . Velocity distributions

Aims. In this work, a sample of v sin i of B9 to F2-type main sequence single stars has been built from highly homogeneous v sin i parameters determined for a large sample cleansed from objects presenting the Am and Ap phenomenon as well as from all known binaries. The aim is to study the distributions of rotational velocities in the mass range of A-type stars for normal single objects. Methods...
