چکیده

Baseline temperature 23-2°C Initial temperature 20 50C Temperature at 7 min 21 °OC Latent period >8 min Maximum rewarming time 0 20C/min The circulation of the extremities can be regulated by temperature-for example, exposure to cold in a normal person will cause vasoconstriction and a decrease in blood flow to the skin. Abnormalities of this apparently simple response have been of interest since Maurice Raynaud described the syndrome that bears his name in 1862. He attributed the clinical signs that he observed to overactivity ofthe sympathetic nervous system, and so began a series of controversies that persist today.

Cryodynamic hand angiography in the diagnosis and management of Raynaud's syndrome.

Cryodynamic hand angiography (CHA) with angiograms done before, just after, and during rewarming following hand immersion in ice water was performed in 39 patients with Raynaud's syndrome and eight volunteers without it. The normal response to cold stimulus was angiographically evident as mild, transient digital arterial constriction. Most of the patients with Raynaud's syndrome, in addition to...

Pathogenesis of Raynaud's phenomenon.

The pathogenesis of Raynaud's phenomenon is not fully understood. However, the last 20 yr have witnessed enormous increases in our understanding of different mechanisms which, singly or in combination, may contribute. A key point is that Raynaud's phenomenon can be either primary (idiopathic) or secondary to a number of underlying conditions, and that the pathogenesis and pathophysiology vary b...

Raynaud's phenomenon induced by sulphasalazine.

Sulphasalazine-induced Raynaud's phenomenon is reported in a patient who showed no other features of a drug-induced lupus syndrome. The vascular disturbance disappeared when the drug was withdrawn on 3 occasions. A simple technique for assessing the circulatory abnormality in Raynaud's phenomenon is described.

The prevalence of Raynaud's syndrome in rheumatoid arthritis.

To test the validity of the putative association between Raynaud's syndrome and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) 277 patients with rheumatic disorders were questioned about cold-induced colour reactions in the extremities. The time to recover digital temperature after brief immersion in ice water was used to confirm the presence of Raynaud's syndrome. The prevalence of Raynaud's syndrome in the 148 pa...

Haemorrheological effects of prostaglandin E1 infusion in Raynaud's syndrome.

Eighteen patients with severe Raynaud's syndrome had impaired deformability of erythrocytes, as measured by filtration through 5 micron diameter pores, compared with 19 healthy controls. The patients were given prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) or placebo by intravenous infusion for 72 h to assess the haemorrheological action of PGE1. Contrary to a previous report, PGE1 did not improve erythrocyte filter...
