چکیده

Observations made while working with industry and government organisations have shown a number of issues with the implementation of current risk management best practice. A major issue in many cases is the lack of pragmatism associated with the risk management process and the need for a more formalised approach to risk management. In this paper, the authors propose and validate a multi-view approach to defining the processes required to carry out risk management. The formalised approach proposed includes a definition of risk, an ontology, a set of processes, and a pragmatic methodology, which shows an application of these processes enabling pro-active management of change. The ability of the processes to be applied to different types of risk has been demonstrated through a case study highlighting health and safety issues. Within the current engineering and economic climate this logical approach provides a visualisation which is consistent, repeatable, view based, and pragmatic. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-3998-0.ch015

Risk management in medical product development process using traditional FMEA and fuzzy linguistic approach: a case study

Medical product development (MPD) process is highly multidisciplinary in nature, which increases the complexity and the associated risks. Managing the risks during MPD process is very crucial. The objective of this research is to explore risks during MPD in a dental product manufacturing company and propose a model for risk mitigation during MPD process to minimize failure events. A case study ...

From Informal Knowledge to Formal Logic: A Realistic Case Study in Medical Protocols

We report our experience in a case study with constructing fully formalised knowledge models of realistic, specialised medical knowledge. We have taken a medical protocol in daily use by medical specialists, modelled this knowledge in a specific-purpose knowledge representation language, and finally formalised this knowledge representation in terms of temporal logic and parallel programs. The v...

Modularity in knowledge acquisition: a step towards reusability

the experience of the French central Bank in terms of developing knowledge-based systems have led us to elaborate an environment of knowledge modelisation called CERISE. In this approach, we introduce a notion of module, issued from software engineering. This notion is fully formalised using algebraic abstract types. The main difference between this formalisation and the earlier ones (see (ML)2...

Covering set correctibility from the perspective of logic: categorical edits

In the previous chapter we formalised edit generation functions as logical deduction functions. In particular, we formalised the edit generation functions FH and MFH as the deduction functions F and MF respectively. We found that MF is essentially the same as MRTh . However, formalising edit generation functions does not formalise the whole of the covering set method, which depends on aspects o...

A fuzzy group decision making approach to construction project risk management

Implementation of the risk management concepts into construction practice may enhance the performance of project by taking appropriate response actions against identified risks. This research proposes a multi-criteria group decision making approach for the evaluation of different alternative response scenarios. To take into account the uncertainties inherent in evaluation process, fuzzy logic i...
