چکیده

I have studied the variability properties and localization of 3EG J1746-2851 based on EGRET data of the observing periods 1–4. Using corrections for know systematic problems and performing various consistency checks I find no evidence of variability with an amplitude exceeding 30% with the possible exception of viewing period 429, for which a strong soft excess is observed. 3EG J1746-2851 is displaced from the exact Galactic Center towards positive Galactic longitudes. Sgr A * , the center of Sgr A East, the pulsar J1747-2958, and the TeV γ-ray source observed with HESS seem to be excluded as possible counterparts at the > 95% level.

Nonthermal Emission from the Arches Cluster (g0.121+0.017) and the Origin of Γ-ray Emission from 3eg J1746-2851

High resolution VLA observations of the Arches cluster near the Galactic center show evidence of continuum emission at λ3.6, 6, 20 and 90cm. The continuum emission at λ90cm is particularly striking because thermal sources generally become optically thick at longer wavelengths and fall off in brightness whereas non-thermal sources increase in brightness. It is argued that the radio emission from...

The Nature of 3 EG J 1746 - 2851 in the Nucleus of the Galaxy

There are a number of candidate sources that are considered to be responsible for the origin of the EGRET source 3EG J1746–2851 (Hartman et al. 1999). The lack of clear identification of this source with any known sources in this region is due to the complexity and the richness of the environment of the Galactic center as well as the low spatial resolution of the EGRET observations. Four hypoth...

Search for Fast Correlated X-ray and Optical Variability in Cir X-1 and Xte J1746-321

Coordinated observations X-ray+optical observations of two southern X-ray binaries, the black hole candidate XTE J1746-321 and the neutron star accreter Cir X-1 (a 'microquasar') are reported. With a photon counting optical photometer on the 1.9m telescope at Sutherland, South Africa and the PCA detector on RXTE, 4h each of simultaneous data were obtained on XTE J1746 and Cir X-1. Cir X-1 showe...

The galactic center arc as source of high energy γ-rays

In this paper we discuss the radio arc at the galactic center to be the counterpart of the high-energy γ-ray source 2EG J1746-2852. Though 2EG J1746-2852 must be regarded as true source in excess of the diffuse background, its position cannot be determined to better than 0.3◦. The observed flux is constant within the statistical limits and the spectrum is very hard. The lack of variability make...

A Systematic Search for Short-term Variability of EGRET Sources

The 3rd EGRET Catalog of High-energy Gamma-ray Sources contains 170 unidentified sources, and there is great interest in the nature of these sources. One means of determining source class is the study of flux variability on time scales of days; pulsars are believed to be stable on these time scales while blazars are known to be highly variable. In addition, previous work has demonstrated that 3...
