چکیده
We have conducted a case-control study in a Chinese population, and investigate the role of two common promoter genomic variants in IL-6 (-174G/C and -572G/C) in the development of CAD in a Chinese population. A hospital-based case-control study was taken. A total of 275 patients with CAD and 286 control subjects were selected between January 2012 and December 2014. The genotyping of IL-6 -174G/C and -572G/C were performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) coupled with restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Using chi-square test, a significant difference was found in IL-6 -174G/C genotype distributions between patients with CAD and control subjects (χ2=16.80, P<0.001). Using unconditional logistic regression analysis, we found that the CC genotype of IL-6 -174G/C was associated with an increased risk of CAD when compared with the GG genotype (OR=3.43, 95% CI=1.79-6.86; P<0.001). Moreover, the IL-6 -174G/C polymorphism was correlated with development of CAD in dominant (OR=1.82, 95% CI=1.23-2.70; P=0.002) and recessive models (OR=3.26, 95% CI=1.71-6.48; P<0.001). However, we found that IL-6 -572G/C polymorphism was not associated with an elevated increased risk of CAD in codominant, dominant and recessive models. In conclusion, we suggest that IL-6 -174G/C is associated with the development of CAD in codominant, dominant, and recessive models. Further studies with large sample size are greatly needed to confirm the findings of our study.

OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate the relationship between IL-6-174G>C, -572G>C and -597G>A polymorphisms and development of coronary artery diseases in a Chinese population. METHODS A total of 275 patients with coronary artery disease and 296 healthy control subjects were collected between January 2013 and November 2014. The IL-6 genotyping for -174G>C, -592G>C and -597G>A polymorphic sites was...
متن کاملAssociation between IL-6 genetic polymorphisms and primary open-angle glaucoma risk in Chinese population
Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is a one of the most common eye diseases in the world, especially in China. Many inflammatory markers are likely to be closely related to the development of POAG, especially cytokines. The aim of our investigation is to reveal the potential association of three interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene SNPs on primary open-angle glaucoma risk factors in Chinese. A case-contro...
متن کاملInterleukin-6 gene -174g>c and -572g>c promoter polymorphisms are strong predictors of plasma interleukin-6 levels after coronary artery bypass surgery.
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) synthesized in response to diverse stimuli may play an important role in bridging the inflammatory and atherosclerotic processes. The acute-phase response after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) is associated with the induction and release of cytokines, such as IL-6. We have examined the effect of common polymorphisms in the IL-6 gene promoter (-174G>C, -572G>C, a...

OBJECTIVE There is a lack of information about the genotype frequencies of IL-6 -174G/C and -572G/C polymorphisms in Mexicans with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of the IL-6 -174G/C and -572G/C polymorphisms in Mexican mestizo with RA. METHODS We included 137 patients with RA and 102 healthy controls. Patients were assessed for clin...

BACKGROUND A quantity of case-control studies have been performed to address the association between the three interleukin-6 (IL-6) polymorphisms (-572G/C, -597G/A and -174G/C) and the risk of HBV related liver diseases. However, previous research results are inconsistent. We conducted this meta-analysis to clarify the correlation between these IL-6 polymorphisms and HBV related liver diseases....
