چکیده

For electrotactile displays to become useful for supplementary sensory feedback for transfemoral prosthesis users the interface needs to be optimized. A closer look is taken at the nature of adaptation during electrocutaneous stimulation. In this portion the effect of intermittent stimulation patterns on the sensation is investigated. Seven different intermittent stimulation signals and two continuous signals were applied to the subjects skin in random order. Each of the nine trials lasted for about fifteen minutes and during these trials the stimulation current was adjusted at 80% of the dynamic range, as recommended in a previous study. The Visual Analog Scale was used to record the course of sensation during the period of stimulation. Results suggest two things. One, a minimal stimulation time (Ton) of 0.5 seconds is required to reach a maximal sensation. Two, a minimal rest period of about 0.3 seconds is required in order to postpone the occurrence of full adaptation (Toff).

Evaluation of sensation evoked by electrocutaneous stimulation on forearm in nondisabled subjects.

Few studies are available in the literature on the sensations artificially created by dual-channel electrocutaneous stimulation. This study assessed the effect of a set of selected stimulation parameters on the sensations evoked by single- or dual-channel electrocutaneous stimulation. The investigated parameters included the stimulation site, the number of pulses, the number of stimulating chan...

The effect of parameters of low-frequency electrical stimulation on piriform-cortex kindled seizures in rat

Introduction: Electrical low-frequency stimulation (LFS) has antiepileptic effect, but the role of different stimulation parameters on this effect has not been determined. In this study the effect of different LFS parameters (intensity, pulse duration and train duration) on piriform-cortex kindled seizures was investigated. Methods: Seizure was produced in animals using kindling model of ep...

Human Gait Control Using Functional Electrical Stimulation Based on Controlling the Shank Dynamics

Introduction: Efficient gait control using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is an open research problem. In this research, a new intermittent controller has been designed to control the human shank movement dynamics during gait. Methods: In this approach, first, the three-dimensional phase space was constructed using the human shank movement data recorded from the healthy subjects. Then...

SmartTouch - Augmentation of Skin Sensation with Electrocutaneous Display

An electrocutaneous display system composed of three layers is implemented for augmentation of skin sensation. The first layer has electrodes on the front side of a thin plate, the second has optical sensors on the reverse side of the plate, and the third is a thin film force sensor between the other two layers. Visual images captured by the sensor are translated into tactile information, and d...

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in delirium: A double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study

Purpose: Delirium is a fatal but potentially reversible disorder of Central Nervous System that adds a lot of costs on health systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of intermittent theta burst stimulation on severity and course of delirium. Methods: This was a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups of ...
