A Light Field Camera For Image Based Rendering by Jason

چکیده
The cost of building a digitizing system for image-based rendering can be prohibitive. Furthermore, the physical size, weight, and complexity of these systems has, in effect, limited their use to small objects and indoor scenes. The primary motivations for this project is to reduce the acquisition cost of light-field capture devices and create a portable system suitable for acquiring outdoor scenes. This paper describes the design of such an apparatus using readily available parts. One of the strategies for reducing the system cost has been to rely on software to correct as many of the geometric and photometric inaccuracies as possible. The resulting light field acquisition device can be built for under $200. The presented light-field acquisition system employs a modified lowcost flatbed scanner. The scanner is interfaced to a standard desktop PC for indoor use or a laptop for outdoor experiments. Focused onto the glass of the scanner is an 8-by11-grid assembly of one-inch plastic lenses. To make the scanner mobile, the DC power supply is replaced with a 12V lead acid battery. Although the construction of our light-field capture system is simple, the most significant challenges involve the processing of the raw scanner output. Necessary adjustments are color correction and radial distortion removal. Thesis Supervisor: Leonard McMillan Title: Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering

متن کاملLight Field Imaging through Household Optics
Although light fields are well-established as a tool in image-based rendering and computer vision, their capture is still at a relatively early stage. In this article, we search for imaging situations similar to uncalibrated integral optics, noticing that they are common in everyday life. We investigate light field capturing scenarios which are provided by commonly available items like cutlery ...
متن کاملLight field rendering with omni-directional camera
This paper presents an approach to capture visual appearance of a real environment such as an interior of a room. We propose the method for generating arbitrary viewpoint images by building light eld with the omni-directional camera, which can capture the wide circumferences. Omni-directional camera used in this technique is a special camera with the hyperbolic mirror in the upper part of a cam...
متن کاملCalibration of Real Scenes for the Reconstruction of Dynamic Light Fields
The classic light field and lumigraph are two well-known approaches to image-based rendering, and subsequently many new rendering techniques and representations have been proposed based on them. Nevertheless the main limitation remains that in almost all of them only static scenes are considered. In this contribution we describe a method for calibrating a scene which includes moving or deformin...
متن کاملA Real-Time Distributed Light Field Camera
We present the design and implementation of a real-time, distributed light field camera. Our system allows multiple viewers to navigate virtual cameras in a dynamically changing light field that is captured in real-time. Our light field camera consists of 64 commodity video cameras that are connected to off-the-shelf computers. We employ a distributed rendering algorithm that allows us to overc...
