The adsorption of polymerized rodlike micelles at the solid-liquid interface.

چکیده
Solutions of rodlike polymeric micellar aggregates, formed from the polymerization of cetyltrimethyl-ammonium 4-vinylbenzoate (CTVB), adsorb at the solid-liquid interface. The poly-CTVB aggregates are imaged in situ using soft contact atomic force microscopy. The aggregates form self-organized two-dimensional films that show a high degree of order on nanometer to micrometer length scales. Unlike their simple surfactant analogues, the adsorbed layer structures are permanently adsorbed and the structure is resilient to washing with pure solvent. In the case of poly-CTVB, the adsorbed aggregates appear to be rigid cylindrical structures of between 30 and 60 nm in length. At the interface, the center to center spacing of the aligned aggregates is 8+/-1 nm. Images of a second series ofpolymerized aggregates formed by the copolymerization of CTVB with sodium vinyltosylate revealed a change in the aggregate structure to a set of linked spherical aggregates. These polymerized aggregates also spontaneously form a permanent adsorbed layer at the solid-liquid interface.

Effect of NaCl on the self-aggregation of n-octyl beta-D-thioglucopyranoside in aqueous medium.
This report investigates the effect of sodium chloride (NaCl) on the micellization, surface activity, and the evolution in the shape and size of n-octyl beta-D-thioglucopyranoside (OTG) aggregates. By using surface tension measurements, information was obtained on both changes in the critical micelle concentration and adsorption behavior in the air-liquid interface with the electrolyte concentr...
متن کاملAdsorption of Methylene Blue from Aqueous Solutions by Silk Cocoon
This study concerns the performance of cocoons spun by silk worms as a natural adsorbent for removal of Methylene Blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. To study the adsorption process, the effect of various parameters such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, dye initial concentration, and pH of the solution were investigated. According to the experiments, the kinetic data were best described by ...
متن کاملAn unusual pathway for the membrane wrapping of rodlike nanoparticles and the orientation- and membrane wrapping-dependent nanoparticle interaction.
Although rapid progress has been made in understanding the interaction of nanoparticles (NPs) with lipid membrane, little is known about the interaction between neighboring NPs on the membrane. With the aid of computer simulation techniques, in this work we systematically investigate the membrane mediated interaction between anisotropic NPs with at least one dimension with the size of several n...
متن کاملSmall angle neutron scattering study of sodium dodecyl sulfate micellar growth driven by addition of a hydrotropic salt.
The structures of aggregates formed in aqueous solutions of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), with the addition of a cationic hydrotropic salt, p-toluidine hydrochloride (PTHC), have been investigated by small angle neutron scattering (SANS). The SANS spectra exhibit a pronounced peak at low salt concentration, indicating the presence of repulsive intermicellar interactions. ...

In the present work, we have investigated the sorption efficiency of the treated activated carbon from walnut shell(ACW) towards Direct Red 81 (DR81) and Direct Blue 71 (DB71) for the removal from aqueous solution. Thesorption study of ACW at the solid-liquid interface was investigated using kinetic, sorption isotherms, pH effectand amount of adsorbent. Experimental data were analyzed by Langmu...
