Particle Emissions from Animal Husbandry

چکیده

Apart from industry, traffic and private households, the agricultural sector is a considerable contributor to emissions of particulate matter (PM). Agricultural activities such as plant and animal production on both farm sites and fields cause PM emissions. Although a reduction of PM emissions is observed for Europe, an increasing proportion of primary PM10 emissions originates from agriculture including emissions from animal housing (Tab. 2.1). An earlier estimate by Klimont and Amann (2002) showed also a similar trend, i.e., European emissions from animal housing representing 2.7 and 4.3 % of total PM10 in 1990 and 2000, respectively. Klimont and Amann (2002) estimated that the major source of PM emissions from housing are poultry and pig livestock operations, which are responsible for 57 % and 32 % of PM10

Ammonia emissions in Europe, part II: How ammonia emission abatement strategies affect secondary aerosols

In central Europe, ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate make up a large fraction of fine particles which pose a threat to human health. Most studies on air pollution through particulate matter investigate the influence of emission reductions of sulphurand nitrogen oxides on aerosol concentration. Here, we focus on the influence of ammonia (NH3) emissions. Emission scenarios have been created ...

Spatial-Temporal Characteristics and LMDI-Based Impact Factor Decomposition of Agricultural Carbon Emissions in Hotan Prefecture, China

Greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural ecosystem account for 7%–20% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions, while approximately 17% of China’s carbon emissions are from agriculture. In this study, based on the scientific calculation system of carbon emissions in agriculture, we calculated the carbon emissions of agriculture in the Hotan prefecture between 1999 and 2013 and analyz...

Changes in agricultural carbon emissions and factors that influence agricultural carbon emissions based on different stages in Xinjiang, China

Xinjiang's agricultural carbon emissions showed three stages of change, i.e., continued to rise, declined and continued to rise, during 1991-2014. The agriculture belonged to the "low emissions and high efficiency" agriculture category, with a lower agricultural carbon emission intensity. By using the logarithmic mean divisia index decomposition method, agricultural carbon emissions were decomp...

Air emissions of ammonia and methane from livestock operations: valuation and policy options.

The animal husbandry industry is a major emitter of ammonia (NH3), which is a precursor of fine particulate matter (PM2.5)--arguably, the number-one environment-related public health threat facing the nation. The industry is also a major emitter of methane (CH4), which is an important greenhouse gas (GHG). We present an integrated process model of the engineering economics of technologies to re...

Animal Manures: Recycling and Management Technologies

Many environmental problems of current concern are due to the high production and local accumulations of organic wastes that are too great for the basic degradation processes inherent in nature. With adequate application rates, animal manure constitutes a valuable resource as a soil fertilizer, as it provides a high content of macroand micronutrients for crop growth and represents a low-cost, e...
