Model Based Diagnosis of Multiple Observations with Implicit Hitting Sets
نویسندگان
چکیده
Model based diagnosis finds a growing range of practical applications, and significant performance-wise improvements have been achieved in recent years. Some of these improvements result from formulating the problem with maximum satisfiability (MaxSAT). Whereas recent work focuses on analyzing failing observations separately, it is also the case that in practical settings there may exist many failing observations. This paper first investigates the drawbacks of analyzing failing observations separately. It then shows that existing solutions do not scale for large systems. Finally, the paper proposes a novel approach for diagnosing systems with many failing observations. The proposed approach is based on implicit hitting sets and so is tightly related with the original seminal work on model based diagnosis. The experimental results demonstrate not only the importance of analyzing multiple observations simultaneously, but also the significance of the implicit hitting set approach.

Solving QBF by Clause Selection
Algorithms based on the enumeration of implicit hitting sets find a growing number of applications, which include maximum satisfiability and model based diagnosis, among others. This paper exploits enumeration of implicit hitting sets in the context of Quantified Boolean Formulas (QBF). The paper starts by developing a simple algorithm for QBF with two levels of quantification, which is shown t...
متن کاملA New Balancing and Ranking Method based on Hesitant Fuzzy Sets for Solving Decision-making Problems under Uncertainty
The purpose of this paper is to extend a new balancing and ranking method to handle uncertainty for a multiple attribute analysis under a hesitant fuzzy environment. The presented hesitant fuzzy balancing and ranking (HF-BR) method does not require attributes’ weights through the process of multiple attribute decision making (MADM) under hesitant conditions. For the rating of possible alternati...
متن کاملBridging the Gap Between Slicing and Model-based Diagnosis
Fault localization is considered an important and difficult task in the software engineering process. In the last decades several approaches to fault localization have been published. Some of them are based on either static or dynamic program slicing. In this paper, we present an approach that combines program slicing with the computation of hitting sets. Hitting sets are used in model-based di...
متن کاملPropagation Models and Fitting Them for the Boolean Random Sets
In order to study the relationship between random Boolean sets and some explanatory variables, this paper introduces a Propagation model. This model can be applied when corresponding Poisson process of the Boolean model is related to explanatory variables and the random grains are not affected by these variables. An approximation for the likelihood is used to find pseudo-maximum likelihood esti...
متن کاملA Low-Cost Approximate Minimal Hitting Set Algorithm and its Application to Model-Based Diagnosis
Generating minimal hitting sets of a collection of sets is known to be NP-hard, necessitating heuristic approaches to handle large problems. In this paper a low-cost, approximate minimal hitting set (MHS) algorithm, coined STACCATO, is presented. STACCATO uses a heuristic function, borrowed from a lightweight, statistics-based software fault localization approach, to guide the MHS search. Given...
