Case Report Hypokalemia-Induced Rhabdomyolysis as a result of Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis in a Pregnant Woman: A Case Report and Literature Review

چکیده
Rhabdomyolysis in pregnancy is a rare occurrence.Themanifestation of distal renal tubular acidosis (RTA) for the first time during adulthood is uncommon. According to a review of the literature, pregnancy may predispose individuals to rhabdomyolysis due to hypokalemia. A reduction in interstitial potassium ions could decrease muscular blood flow and lead to muscle injury. This report describes the case of a pregnant woman with rhabdomyolysis induced by hypokalemia resulting from distal RTA. The patient subsequently delivered a healthy newborn.

Hypokalemic quadriparesis and rhabdomyolysis as a rare presen-tation of distal renal tubular acidosis
Distal renal tubular acidosis is a syndrome of abnormal urine acidification and is characterized by hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, hypokalemia, hypercalciurea, nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis. Despite the presence of persistent hypokalemia, acute muscular paralysis is rarely encountered in males. Here, we will report an eighteen year old male patient who presented with flaccid quadrip...
متن کاملPROLONGED PARALYSIS AS AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS
A case of renal tubular acidosis (RTA) who had gradual onset of paralysis of lower extremities and persisted for a long time is presented. His primary workups were mistaken for muscular dystrophy. Eventually, an abdominal ultrasonography revealed small stones in both of the kidneys and his workup for the stones were in favor of distal renal tubular acidosis and advanced rickets with hypokal...
متن کاملIbuprofen-induced renal tubular acidosis—a rare cause of rhabdomyolysis: a case report
Ibuprofen is widely used in the community to manage pain, inflammation and fever. In cases of prolonged and supratherapeutic ingestion of ibuprofen, renal tubular acidosis (RTA) with profound hypokalemia may occur. Although hypokalemia is known to cause rhabdomyolysis, rhabdomyolysis occurring in the setting of ibuprofen-induced RTA is rare. We present an unusual case of a 34-year-old male who ...
متن کاملPrimary Sjö-gren's syndrome presenting with distal, renal tubular acidosis and rhabdomyolysis.
Primary Sjögren's syndrome (PSS) is rare in India. Clinically manifest renal disease in PSS is uncommon and is usually an autoimmune tubulointerstitial nephritis presenting with distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) or a urinary concentrating defect. Hypokalemic paralysis due to dRTA in PSS is rare but well documented in medical literature. Rhabdomyolysis as a consequence of hypokalemia in PSS i...
متن کاملDistal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney
Introduction Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or high-depending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion b...
