Optimization of a simulated iron-oxide pellets induration furnace

چکیده
Induration furnaces for iron-oxide pellets are expensive processes, due to their high energy consumption. Moreover, they are highly interactive and then complex to control. Real-time optimization strategies based on reliable process models are thus necessary. However, induration furnaces are described by distributed-parameter models that require long computation times. The performance of IMCoptimization [1], an easy to implement static nonlinear optimization algorithm, is compared to a direct optimization based on the nonlinear process model itself. For a simulated induration furnace, it is shown that the accuracy obtained with the IMC-optimization algorithm is quite sufficient and does not require considerable computation efforts.

Effect of Using Oxygen-Enriched Gas during Induration Process of Iron Ore Pellets Containing Solid Fuel
In this research, the effects of oxygen injection during the induration process were studied in order to improve the quality specifications and increase the rate of production of the iron oxide pellets. Several experiments were carried out in palletizing pilot plant in different conditions of oxygen injection. The results suggested that if only the extra oxygen was injected into the furnace in ...

Mathematical model for a pilot scale iron ore pellet induration furnace has been developed which considers the process of induration including the reactions of limestone, magnetite and coke. The differential equations of energy, mass and momentum are solved simultaneously. The profiles of temperature, pressure and concentration are obtained. Performing separate experiments on sub processes; dry...
متن کاملLimiting Phenomena Related to the Use of Iron Ore Pellets in a Blast Furnace
Most of the iron in the world is produced using a blast furnace process, which has iron ore (iron oxides) and coke as its raw materials. When pellets are used in a blast furnace, the iron burden material is charged in the form of pellets and fine, iron-rich by-products are charged typically in the form of cold-bonded briquettes at the top of the blast furnace. Coke is the primary fuel and reduc...

Current blast furnace technology is a two-stage ironmaking process that requires that iron ore concentrate first be formed into pellets, fired at 1260°C, cooled, transported to the blast furnace, and then re-heated to approximately 1500°C to produce pig iron. This heating, cooling, and then reheating wastes a great deal of energy, which would be saved if the ironmaking process had only a single...
