A User-Influenced Pricing Mechanism for Internet Access

چکیده
Proper pricing schemes are vital components to the continuing success of the Internet. In this paper, we propose a new pricing scheme for Internet access called user-influenced pricing. Our main contribution is threefold: first, we show how user-influenced pricing can provide the ISP with calculable revenues, while giving the users a chance to lower their costs via voting for their preferred pricing scheme. Second, we develop a cooperative weighted voting game which models the decisionmaking process, and we derive equilibrium solutions to analyze possible outcomes of the vote. Third, we investigate the distribution of power and we show that users with medium generated traffic volume are pivotal to the outcome. Finally, we discuss the practical feasibility of the proposed mechanism regarding user population, revenue planning and charging.

The Use of Data Envelopment Analysis in the Design of Internet Networks to Ensure the Quality of Service
Choosing a superior Internet network by users or providing a desirable Internet network by ISPs is always one of the important decision issues in this area. Choosing a unique optimal network from among the best networks is still a big challenge. The purpose of this paper is to use the data envelopment analysis (DEA) decision-making technique to evaluate the existing Internet networks in order t...

The Internet of Things and Services (IoTS) has encouraged the development of service provisioning systems in respect to Smart City topics. Most of them are operated as heterogeneous systems which limits end customers’ access and contradicts with IoTS principles. In this paper, we discuss and develop a reference model of an interconnected service marketplace ecosystem. The prototypical implement...
متن کاملHow to charge for network services - flat-rate or usage-based?
Currently, the Internet service provider market offers two different types of pricing plans. In the USA, the predominant pricing plan is a flat-rate plan. In Europe and Asia, the predominant one is a per-minute pricing plan. Enrolled in such a pricing plan, users have to pay for the connect time to the Internet. Although Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have competed heavily for users in these...
متن کاملUser Behavior for a Pricing Scheme in a Multi-provider Scenario
Pricing of communication services becomes a necessity once these services form a commodity in a market. As visible today, the Internet has dramatically made a move into its commercial deployment. Therefore, e.g. , Internet access, bandwidth, or services need to be charged for. However, there exist a number of pricing models – from static ones to highly dynamic ones – which need to be evaluated ...
متن کاملA Proposal for a Flexible Service Plan that is Attractive to Users and Internet Service Providers
The current Internet Service Provider market does not offer different types of service plans for Internet access. The predominant pricing plan is a flat-rated plan. Since the number of new Internet users is still growing very fast, there is no real competition in the Internet market. Consequently, there is no incentive for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to focus on certain user groups by off...
