Cardiomyopathies and heart failure
نویسنده
چکیده
Primary heart failure in cardiomyopathy occurs in (1) hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic disease of the sarcomere; and (2) in dilated cardiomyopathy. The latter is often regarded as idiopathic in origin, but requires exclusion of all possible etiologies which are becoming easier to identify with modern investigative techniques. Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy is now increasingly recognized especially in uncontrolled atrial fibrillation. Pharmacological treatment of cardiomyopathic heart failure includes diuretics, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibition (RAAS), b-blockade, vasodilators and metabolic therapy. Agents that modify fatty acid metabolism such as trimetazidine and perhexiline and ranolazine can have beneficial effects. In addition, in one study trimetazidine unexpectedly increased high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). Heart Metab. 2010;46:17–24.

متن کاملPediatric Cardiomyopathies — Pathophysiology and Diagnostic Workup
Pediatric cardiomyopathies are a group of conditions that are characterized by ventricular dilatation as seen in dilated cardiomyopathy or ventricular constriction as seen with restrictive cardiomyopathy and constrictive pericarditis. Patients might develop congestive heart failure. Echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging are the main diagnostic modalities for cardiomyopathies in childr...
متن کاملCardiac and peripheral actions of growth hormone and its releasing peptides: relevance for the treatment of cardiomyopathies.
Ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathies are associated with significant morbidity and mortality in industrialized countries. Cardiomyopathies of primary origin, and more specifically the dilated form of the disease, have been associated with a number of gene defects in cytoskeletal, membrane, and sarcomeric proteins. Cardiomyopathies of secondary origin such as ischemic cardiomyopathy remain ...
متن کاملAn Unusual Cause of Postpartum Heart Failure
Peripartum cardiomyopathy is a weakness of the heart muscle. It is an idiopathic cardiomyopathy that presents with heart failure secondary to left ventricular systolic dysfunction toward the end of pregnancy or in the months after delivery, in the absence of any other cause of heart failure. It is a rare condition that can carry mild or severe symptoms.
