Image Categorization Using Scene-Context Scale Based on Random Forests
نویسندگان
چکیده
Scene-context plays an important role in scene analysis and object recognition. Among various sources of scene-context, we focus on scene-context scale, which means the effective scale of local context to classify an image pixel in a scene. This paper presents random forests based image categorization using the scene-context scale. The proposed method uses random forests, which are ensembles of randomized decision trees. Since the random forests are extremely fast in both training and testing, it is possible to perform classification, clustering and regression in real time. We train multi-scale texton forests which efficiently provide both a hierarchical clustering into semantic textons and local classification in various scale levels. The scene-context scale can be estimated by the entropy of the leaf node in the multi-scale texton forests. For image categorization, we combine the classified category distributions in each scale and the estimated scene-context scale. We evaluate on the MSRC21 segmentation dataset and find that the use of the scene-context scale improves image categorization performance. Our results have outperformed the state-of-the-art in image categorization accuracy. key words: scene-context scale, image categorization, randomized decision trees, random forests, multi-scale texton forests

Image Categorization and Semantic Segmentation using Scale-Optimized Textons
In computer vision research, a texton is a representative dense visual word for the bag-of-keypoints method. It has proven its effectiveness in categorizing materials and in generic object classes. Despite its success and popularity, no report describes a study that has tackled the problem of its scale optimization for given image data and associated object categories. We propose scale-optimize...

Please cite this article in press as: C. Galleguillos doi:10.1016/j.cviu.2010.02.004 The goal of object categorization is to locate and identify instances of an object category within an image. Recognizing an object in an image is difficult when images include occlusion, poor quality, noise or background clutter, and this task becomes even more challenging when many objects are present in the s...

When watching natural scenes, an overwhelming amount of information is delivered to the Human Visual System (HVS). The optic nerve is estimated to receive around 108 bits of information a second. This large amount of information can’t be processed right away through our neural system. Visual attention mechanism enables HVS to spend neural resources efficiently, only on the selected parts of the...

Image-based localization, or camera relocalization, is a fundamental problem in computer vision and robotics, and it refers to estimating camera pose from an image. Recent state-ofthe-art approaches use learning based methods, such as Random Forests (RFs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), to regress for each pixel in the image its corresponding position in the scene’s world coordinate f...

Using contextual information for scene labeling has gained substantial attention in the fields of image processing and computer vision. In this paper, a fusion model using flexible segmentation graph (FSG) is presented to explore multi-scale context for scene labeling problem. Given a family of segmentations, the representation of FSG is established based on the spatial relationship of these se...
