چکیده

We retrieved the mass-specific scattering coefficient b*sm(λ) = 0.60·(λ/650) of the inhomogeneous and optically complex water column of eastern Lake Constance in May 2012. In-situ measured and modelled remote-sensing reflectance Rrs(λ) were matched via a parameter search procedure using genetic algorithms. The optical modelling consisted of solving the azimuthally-averaged Radiative Transfer Equation, forced with in-situ suspended matter concentration (sm) data. b*sm(λ) was univocally determined at red wavelengths. In contrast, we encountered unresolved spectral ambiguity at blue wavelengths due to the absence of organic absorption in our dataset. Despite this, a surprisingly good sm retrieval regression is achieved (R > 0.95 with respect to independent data) using our b*sm(λ). Acquisition of accurate inherent optical properties in future field campaigns is needed to verify the estimated b*sm(λ) and related assumptions. OPEN ACCESS Remote Sens. 2014, 6 9531

Optimization of sediment rating curve coefficients using evolutionary algorithms and unsupervised artificial neural network

Sediment rating curve (SRC) is a conventional and a common regression model in estimating suspended sediment load (SSL) of flow discharge. However, in most cases the data log-transformation in SRC models causing a bias which underestimates SSL prediction. In this study, using the daily stream flow and suspended sediment load data from Shalman hydrometric station on Shalmanroud River, Guilan Pro...

Determination of the size distribution of monodesperse and bidisperse mixtures of spherical particles in the nanometer and submicron size range by applying cumulant analysis and contin algorithm in dynamic light scattering

Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...

Exploitation of dam reservoirs is one of the major problems in the management of water resources. In this research, Crow Search Algorithm (CSA) was used for the first time to manage the operation of reservoirs. Also, the results related to the exploitation of the single-reservoir system of Shahid-Rajaei dam, located in Mazandaran province, northern Iran, which meets the downstream water demands...

Deriving Total Suspended Matter Concentration from the Near-Infrared-Based Inherent Optical Properties over Turbid Waters: A Case Study in Lake Taihu

Normalized water-leaving radiance spectra nLw(λ), particle backscattering coefficients bbp(λ) in the near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, and total suspended matter (TSM) concentrations over turbid waters are analytically correlated. To demonstrate the use of bbp(λ) in the NIR wavelengths in coastal and inland waters, we used in situ optics and TSM data to develop two TSM algorithms from measuremen...
