چکیده

In computed tomography fiducial markers are frequently used to obtain accurate point correspondences for further processing. These markers typically cause metal artefacts, decreasing image quality of the subsequent reconstruction and are therefore often removed from the projection data. The placement of such markers is usually done on a surface, separating two materials, e.g. skin and air. Hence, a correct restoration of the occluded area is difficult. In this work six state-of-the-art interpolation techniques for the removal of high-density fiducial markers from cone-beam CT projection data are compared. We conducted a qualitative and quantitative evaluation for the removal of such markers and the ability to reconstruct the adjoining edge. Results indicate that an iterative spectral deconvolution is best suited for this application, showing promising results in terms of edge, as well as noise restoration.

Effective One Step-iterative Fiducial Marker-based Compensation for Involuntary Motion in Weight-bearing C-arm Cone-beam CT Scanning of Knees

We previously introduced three different fiducial marker-based correction methods (2D projection shifting, 2D projection warping, and 3D image warping) for patients’ involuntary motion in the lower body during weight-bearing Carm CT scanning. The 3D warping method performed better than 2D methods since it could more accurately take into account the lower body motion in 3D. However, as the 3D wa...

Multiresolution-based registration of a volume to a set of its projections

We have developed an algorithm for the rigid-body registration of a 3D CT to a set of C-arm images by matching them to computed cone-beam projections of the CT (DRRs). We precomputed rescaled versions (pyramid) of the CT volume and of the C-arm images. We perform the registration of the CT to the C-arm images starting from their coarsest resolution until we reach some finer resolution that offe...

Self-Calibration and Simultaneous Motion Estimation for C-Arm CT Using Fiducial

C-arm cone-beam CT systems have an increasing popularity in the clinical environment due to their highly flexible scan trajectories. Recent work used these systems to acquire images of the knee joint under weight-bearing conditions. During the scan, the patient is in a standing or in a squatting position and is likely to show involuntary motion, which corrupts image reconstruction. The state-of...

C-arm fluoroscopic cone beam CT for guidance of minimally invasive spine interventions.

BACKGROUND Isocentric C-arm fluoroscopic cone beam CT (CBCT) is a new technique for near real time 3-D volume imaging guidance of percutaneous interventional procedures. In combination with digital flat panel detectors, CBCT has high spatial resolution with isotropic voxel size, allowing for high resolution image reconstruction in any plane, including 3D rotational reconstructions. CBCT combine...

Image-based compensation for involuntary motion in weight-bearing C-arm cone-beam CT scanning of knees

We previously introduced four fiducial marker-based strategies to compensate for involuntary knee-joint motion during weight-bearing C-arm CT scanning of the lower body. 2D methods showed significant reduction of motionrelated artifacts, but 3D methods worked best. However, previous methods led to increased examination times and patient discomfort caused by the marker attachment process. Moreov...
