چکیده

This paper presents the SDR issues to be addressed in a future heterogeneous environment covering also the IP networks. The new project SCOUT (Smart user-Centric cOmmUnication environmenT) will consider this as a key issue. For a comprehensive view the different future research topics and initial concepts are highlighted. One of the major issues to be solved will be the detailed definition of the split of intelligence between the reconfigurable SDR terminals and the networks. In particular a suitable network architecture based on IP paradigms as for example developed in MWIF needs to be further developed, which supports reconfigurable terminals and access networks, manages software download traffic, provides reconfiguration support and facilitates Joint Radio Resource Management (JRRM) covering spectrum sharing. SDR principles and research of IP based networks must be jointly tackled in order to have an increase of capability and versatility of future mobile radio networks. A detailed insight into the important domains is presented in this paper, thereby concentrating on network-centric and terminal-centric support functions enabling reconfigurability of SDR equipments.

Performance Evaluation of an Sdr Signal Processing Board Using a Reconfigurable Processor

Software defined radio (SDR) mobile terminals that can access multiple wireless communication systems are the trend of the future. An SDR wideband mobile terminal must be capable of high-speed data processing and low power consumption. Reconfigurable processors with these features show promise for SDR wideband mobile terminals. We have developed a signal processing board using a reconfigurable ...

SDR based Energy Efficient Routing for Ad Hoc Networks

MANETs are networks capable of communicating in a set of small, low cost, low power sensing devices. A wireless sensor networks is totally based on the limiting factor i.e. energy consumption. A wireless sensor network consists of large number of sensor nodes distributed or scattered in particular network region. MANETs consist of node that is highly mobile, so in particular the range of the no...

An Architecture for Radio-independent Wireless Access Networks

This paper discusses a novel architecture for a Hybrid Fiber Radio (HFR) access network using Software Defined Radio (SDR) in a combined Base Station (BS) headend unit. While most of the current SDR approaches consider software radio to be used in the portable terminals to allow multi-mode operation, we propose a SDR-HFR based access network architecture. The combination of HFR and SDR allows s...

Design of Future Software Defined Radio (SDR) for All-IP Heterogeneous Network

The software defined radio (SDR) is the heart of the 4G mobile communication to access any network at any time basis. The different wireless networks such as cellular, codeless, wireless local area network (WLAN) having different band of frequency requires individual software to access any call. The SDR device requires more antennas and low noise amplifier (LNA) because it is impossible for sin...

Reconfigurable Radio Systems as Enabler for Exploiting the Future Heterogeneous Wireless Communications Landscape

This article introduces a novel flexible mobile device reconfiguration classes (MDRCs) framework which is expected to be applicable to future generation mass market reconfigurable radio devices. This framework sets the scene for a vision of a smooth evolution of reconfigurability features in mobile devices (MDs), paving the way from the current and mainly static implementation choices toward a ...
