Anecdote Recognition and Recommendation

چکیده
We introduce a novel task Anecdote Recognition and Recommendation. An anecdote is a story with a point revealing account of an individual person. Recommending proper anecdotes can be used as evidence to support argumentative writing or as a clue for further reading. We represent an anecdote as a structured tuple — < person, story, implication >. Anecdote recognition runs on archived argumentative essays. We extract narratives containing events of a person as the anecdote story. More importantly, we uncover the anecdote implication, which reveals the meaning and topic of an anecdote. Our approach depends on discourse role identification. Discourse roles such as thesis, main ideas and support help us locate stories and their implications in essays. The experiments show that informative and interpretable anecdotes can be recognized. These anecdotes are used for anecdote recommendation. The anecdote recommender can recommend proper anecdotes in response to given topics. The anecdote implications contribute most for bridging user interested topics and relevant anecdotes.

Extension 3: Vision
A well-known anecdote relates how, sometime in 1966, the legendary Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky directed an undergraduate student to solve “the problem of computer vision” as a summer project (1). This anecdote is often resuscitated to illustrate how egregiously the difficulty of computational vision has been underestimated. Indeed, nearly forty years later, the discipline cont...

With the increasingly growth of scientific documents in the Web, it is difficult to select a concerned document. A citation recommendation system receives a text and recommends documents to be cited by the text. Such recommendation helps a researcher in hitting his/her concerned texts. Based on sematic relations, this paper presents a new indicator to measure the similarity between documents an...
متن کاملTechnology as the representative anecdote in popular discourses of health and medicine.
Using a Burkean framework (1969), this article approaches medical dramas as cultural texts to be read for dominant meanings of health and health care. Burke's representative anecdote illuminates the melding of science, technology, and healing in popular discourses of health, establishing technological intervention as the norm and marginalizing nontechnological (i.e., alternative) forms of healt...

In this article we propose an interactive Web-based movie recommendation system namely MISRec employing object recognition for movie thumbnails. The proposed system carries out object recognition on movie thumbnails or DVD cover-photos in a real-time manner, and recommends movies based on user’s historical preferences and the query intention. Unlike typical preference-based recommendation syste...

This paper investigates the relationship between the word accuracy and the PESQ (ITU-T Recommendation P.862) score, and the availability of the artificial voice (ITU-T Recommendation P.50) for calculating the PESQ score. For this purpose, recognition experiments using four noise reduction algorithms were performed on the AURORA-2J connected digit recognition task. These results confirmed that t...
