چکیده

During surveillance of the swine population in Israel a haemagglutinating agent was isolated and identified as a paramyxovirus (PMV). Serological studies based on haemagglutination and neuraminidase inhibition (HI and NI) tests displayed a close antigenic relationship between the isolate and the prototype strain of a variety of the avian PMV serotype 3 (PMV-3). However, comprehensive HI and NI cross-reaction tests between the isolate and PMV-3 reference strains, on the one hand, and the other eight avian PMV serotypes, on the other hand, showed that the viruses compared differed in terms of their antigenic interrelationships with the other avian PMVs and also in the quantitative values of the cross-reactivity. This is interpreted to mean that the swine isolate and the avain PMV-3 prototype strain are different viruses, although very closely related, but are not different isolations of the same virus from avian and mammalian hosts.

Isolation and pathogenicity identification of avian paramyxovirus serotype 1 (Newcastle disease) virus from a Japanese quail flock in Iran

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) was isolated and identified for the first time from a flock of Japanese quail suspected to ND in Iran. Birds of the flock aged variously, and some of them died from the disease. Loss of appetite, weakness and decrease in egg production, diarrhea and nervous symptoms were the main clinical signs in the birds. Hemorrhagic lesions of the intestinal tracts and proventr...

Characterization of isolated pigeon paramyxovirus-1 (PMV-1) and its pathogenicity in broiler chickens

Characterization of isolated pigeon paramyxovirus-1 (PMV-1) and its pathogenicity in broiler chickens were studied. Two hundred and thirty-two samples collected from 50 unvaccinated pigeons lofts suspected to Newcastle disease from private houses and bird markets from Ahvaz‌, Iran. Swab samples from cloaca and oropharynx of live pigeons and from trachea, lung, liver, spleen, kidney, brain, prov...

Isolation and properties of viruses from poultry in Hong Kong which represent a new (sixth) distinct group of avian paramyxoviruses.

Eight viruses isolated in Hong Kong were shown to be serologically related. One was obtained from the tracheal swab of a chicken and four were from cloacal swabs of ducks sampled at a poultry dressing plant. Three isolations were made from samples taken at a duck farm: two from pond water and one from faeces. Representatives of these isolates were shown to be paramyxoviruses but were serologica...

A method for the rapid isolation of virus from cultured cells.

A simple and efficient collection method using hypotonic burst to isolate virions from infected cultured cells is described. Distilled water treatment of avian metapneumovirus (AMPV)-infected cells with thorough mixing and repeated pipeting was considerably faster for virion collection in avian cells compared to the widely used freeze-thaw (F-T) method (30 min vs. 3-4 h). This method was also m...

Complete Genome Sequences of Four Avian Paramyxoviruses of Serotype 10 Isolated from Rockhopper Penguins on the Falkland Islands

The first complete genome sequences of four avian paramyxovirus serotype 10 (APMV-10) isolates are described here. The viruses were isolated from rockhopper penguins on the Falkland Islands, sampled in 2007. All four genomes are 15,456 nucleotides in length, and phylogenetic analyses show them to be closely related.
