چکیده

Urban change analysis has traditionally been supported through land use/cover classification and map-to-map comparison. In this research, we investigate the usefulness of satellitederived imperviousness index as an alternative for urban spatial growth characterization. The study area, Pensacola, FL, has witnessed considerable growth in population and regional economies during the past decade. The research consists of a number of procedures. First, we identify a method for landscape imperviousness estimation by synergistic use of medium-resolution satellite imagery and high-resolution color orthophoto through multivariate statistical analysis. We apply this method to map landscape imperviousness index for the years of 1989 and 2002, respectively. We assess the maps accuracy with the imperviousness estimation from high-resolution DOQQ imagery as the reference. The overall error is estimated to be less than 10%. Then, we analyze the spatio-temporal changing trend of landscape imperviousness index with the emphasis upon some hot spots of development areas. We find that this trend is compatible with the urban land use/cover changing trend detected through image interpretation. We conclude that satellite-derived landscape imperviousness index is able to serve as an invaluable alternative for quick and objective assessment of urban spatial growth, particularly over large areas. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Estimation of Sub-pixel Impervious Surfaces Using Landsat and Aster Imagery for Assessing Urban Growth

Urban development has expanded rapidly in the Las Vegas, Nevada metropolitan area over the last fifty years. Associated with this growth trend has been the transformation of the landscape from natural cover types to increasingly impervious urban land. To map urban extent and its change over time, an innovative approach is employed that determines sub-pixel impervious surfaces from highresolutio...

Large scale land use/cover changes and habitat fragmentation have been associated with the decline of many wildlife populations in ecological sensitive regions. The main goal of this study was to quantify the spatial pattern changes in Caucasian Black Grouse habitat in Arasbaran Biosphere Reserve, Northwest of Iran in a period of 24 years (1987–2011). Caucasian black grouse (Tetrao mlokosiewicz...

Analysis of Urban Land Use Change in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area Using Multi-temporal Satellite Imagery

Urban development has expanded rapidly in Las Vegas, Nevada, over the last fifty years. To assess urban land use change in the area, a sub-pixel change detection approach has been used to map urban extent and its temporal changes by determining sub-pixel level impervious surface areas from Landsat satellite remote sensing data in conjunction with digital orthophotography. Sub-pixel percentages ...

Knowledge about long-term land cover/use changes is essential for evaluating and predicting their consequent problems by urban managers and policymakers. Remote sensing with landscape metrics is an effective tool for monitoring these changes in urban cores and their peripheral areas. During the recent decades, industrial and urban growth, and immigration of people into Isfahan metropolitan area...

سنجش اثرات سبزینگی گیاهی در تحولات فضایی شدت جزیره حرارتی سطح کلانشهر تهران با استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای LANDSAT8 و ASTER

The simplest definition of urbanization is that urbanization is the process of becoming urban. Urban climate is defined by specific climate conditions which differ from surrounding rural areas. Urban areas, for example, have higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas and weaker winds. Land Surface Temperature is an important phenomenon in global climate change. As the green house gases in...
