چکیده
Mediastinal masses in children comprise a heterogeneous group of malignant and benign neoplasms. The majority of malignant tumors of mediastinum are Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphomas, germ cell tumors, and neuroblastomas. Thymic tumors account for 1.5% of mediastinal masses in children [1]. Thymomas, thymic carcinoids, and thymic carcinomas constitute thymic epithelial neoplasms (TEN). Carcinomas are malignant tumors of the thymus characterized by obvious cytological anaplasia, extensive infiltration of surrounding tissues, and extrathoracic metastasis [2]. Carcinomas constitute only 4%–14% of thymic epithelial neoplasms [3,4]. Thymic epithelial neoplasms are usually seen in the fourth and fifth decades of life. Thymic carcinoma rarely occurs in children [3–5]. In addition to a review of previous cases in literature, herewe report a case of thymic carcinoma in a child who presented with a mediastinal mass.

Ectopic papillary thyroid carcinoma in the mediastinum without any tumoral involvement in the thyroid gland. A Case report
Ectopic thyroid tissue results from abnormal embryologic development and migration of the thyroid gland. True malignant transformation in ectopic thyroid tissue is extremely rare and is always diagnosed after surgical excision of the lesion by pathology examinations. There are well-documented cases of ectopic thyroid cancer while primary tumoral lesion occurs in the orthotopic thyroid, but only...
متن کاملA Cervical Thymic Cyst with Persistent Thymopharyngeal Tract: A Case Report
Cervical thymic cyst is a rare entity of either congenital or inflammatory origin described infrequently in literature. The asymptomatic nature of the entity and the rarity of the lesion frequently lead to a diagnostic dilemma many times. We present a case of cervical thymic cyst that presented to us as an asymptomatic neck mass that was managed surgically. Cervical thymic cyst should be kept a...
متن کاملEvaluation of Thymic Changes after Median Sternotomy in Children
In patients who undergo median sternotomy to treat congenital heart diseases, a thymectomy is performed to yield better access to the cardiac system. In this study we have used MRI to evaluate the changes in size, shape and location of the thymus after midsternatomy. This case-control study was performed during 2011-2012 in Shiraz, Iran. Eligible participants between 5-17 years of age were divi...

It rarely occurs in children, and is rarer among adults. Thymic lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is an uncommon subtype of thymic carcinoma in children, however, it is one of the common histological subtypes of thymic carcinoma in adults. In...
