High-frequency characterization of twisted-pair cables
نویسنده
چکیده
A wave propagation method model is proposed for the extraction of propagation parameters of high-bit rate digital subscriber twisted-pair cables. The model is derived from the scattering parameters of a transmission line. The frequency dependence and the skin effect are studied. Experimental simulations are performed to evaluate the accuracy of the extracted parameters. Good agreement is found in the cases studied.

Common-Mode to Differential-Mode Conver- sion in Shielded Twisted-Pair Cables (Shield-Current-Induced Noise)
Neil Muncy [1] has shown that audio frequency current flowing on the shield of twisted-pair audio wiring will be converted to differential mode voltage by any imbalance in the transfer impedance of the cable. He hypothesized that the effect is magnified by the presence of a drain wire and increases linearly with frequency. Whitlock [2] and others have shown that conversion also occurs with capa...
متن کاملDiagnostics and Prognostics of Wiring Integrity via Joint Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry
The integrity of the wiring in the electric power system of an aircraft is vital to its safe operation. To ensure the wiring integrity, it must be tested to determine if any incipient defects exist. For this purpose, joint time-frequency domain reflectometry (JTFDR) has proven to be effective on shielded, coaxial cable. This paper demonstrates the ability of JTFDR to also effectively detect and...
متن کاملElectromagnetic coupling of twisted pair cables
Increasing deployment of digital subscriber line (DSL) technology operating in the long wave, medium wave and sometimes short wave frequency ranges, has raised the question of how such systems interact with rival radio frequency sources and equipment. Two of the major standards bodies in the field, ITU and ETSI, imposed by the standardization of such promising technologies like ADSL, SHDSL and ...
متن کاملA System for Providing High Quality Triggers to Experimental Areas
Many researchers require a high resolution trigger to synchronize their data gathering electronics with the arrival of a synchrotron radiation pulse at their target. At the Advanced Light Source (ALS), this requirement was initially satisfied in a case by case manner by running Heliax cables from the Accelerator Timing System[1] to the various experiment locations. This approach was less than i...
متن کاملCrosstalk Channel Estimation via Standardized Two-Port Measurements
The emerging multiuser transmission techniques for enabling higher data rates in the copper-access network relies upon accurate knowledge of the twisted-pair cables. In particular, the square-magnitude of the crosstalk channels between the transmission lines are of interest for crosstalk-mitigation techniques. Acquiring such information normally requires dedicated apparatus since crosstalk-chan...
