چکیده

In this paper, we study the performance of channel assignment algorithms for “channelized” (e.g., FDMA or TDMA) cellular telephone systems, via mathematical models, each of which is characterized by a pair (H,p) , where H is a hypergraph describing the channel reuse restrictions, and p is a probability vector describing the variation of traffic intensity from cell to ceU. For a given channel assignment algorithm, we define T(r) to be the amount of carried traffic, as a function of the offered traffic, where both r and T(r) are measured in Erlangs per channel. We show that for a given H and p , there exists a function T H , ~ ( ~ ) , which can be computed by linear programming, such that for every channel assignment algorithm, T(r) 5 T H , ~ ( T ) . Moreover, we show that there exist channel assignment algorithms whose performance approaches TH, p ( r ) arbitrarily closely as the number of channels increases. As a corollary, we show that for a given ( H , p ) there is a number r o , which also can be computed by linear programming, such that if the offered traffic exceeds 7-0, then for any channel assignment algorithm, a positive fraction of all call requests must be blocked, whereas if the offered traffic is less than 1 0 , all call requests can be honored, if the number of channels is sufficiently large. We call r o , whose units are Erlangs per channel, the capacity of the cellular system.

Performance analysis of channelized cellular systems with dynamic channel allocation

We present an analytical model to compute the blocking probability in channelized cellular systems with dynamic channel allocation. We model the channel occupancy in a cell by a two-dimensional (2-D) Markov chain, which can be solved to obtain the blocking probability in each cell. We apply our analytical model to linear highway systems with and without lognormal shadowing and then extend it to...

Hypergraph Models for Cellular Mobile Communication Systems

Cellular systems have hitherto been modeled mostly by graphs for the purpose of channel assignment. However, hypergraph modeling of cellular systems offers a significant advantage over graph modeling in terms of the total traffic carried by the system. For example, we show that a 37-cell system when modeled by a hypergraph carries around 30% more traffic than when modeled by a graph. We study t...

Channelized and Signal Detection Technique for Intercept Receiver

The radar signal intercept problem under complex signal environment has been a research hotspot in the field of electronic reconnaissance. A kind of radar signal intercept receiver which has 500 MHz instantaneous bandwidth is proposed to receive multiple simultaneous radar signals and to give phase difference information to signal sorting. The channelized efficient architecture of odd arrangeme...

Task-based lens design with application to digital mammography.

Recent advances in model observers that predict human perceptual performance now make it possible to optimize medical imaging systems for human task performance. We illustrate the procedure by considering the design of a lens for use in an optically coupled digital mammography system. The channelized Hotelling observer is used to model human performance, and the channels chosen are differences ...

A risk adjusted self-starting Bernoulli CUSUM control chart with dynamic probability control limits

Usually, in monitoring schemes the nominal value of the process parameter is assumed known. However, this assumption is violated owing to costly sampling and lack of data particularly in healthcare systems. On the other hand, applying a fixed control limit for the risk-adjusted Bernoulli chart causes to a variable in-control average run length performance for patient populations with dissimilar...
