چکیده

Murine leprosy is analogous to hum an lepromatous leprosy by similarities in host cell reaotions and some characteristics of causative agents. As in the lcsions of lepromatous lcprosy so also in the lesions of murine leprosy there arc innumerable undigested bacilli and large amounts of lipids in maerophages. The present studies were initiated as a part of a series of analysis of the chemical compositions of intraccllular lipids and their genesis in the reticuloendothelial cells of murinc leprosy as compared with thosc in hum an leprosy ( 10).

Studies on lipids in leprosy. 3. Chromatographic analysis of lipid in leprosy.

It is well-known that the cytoplasm of lepra cells contains large amounts of lipids and fragmentary bacilli as well as innumerable undigested Mycobacteria leprae. These cells apparently are deficient in ability to digest mycobacterial cell walls (39, 40), Most histochemical studies of the stored lipids in lepra cells have indicated that there are large proportions of phospholipids and fatty aci...

P-44: Oral Gibberellic Acid Administration Impact on Testicular Histochemistry

Background: Gibberellic acid (GBA) is a naturally occurring and commercially produced plant growth regulator which may cause a variety of effects including the stimulation of seed germination in some cases. Histochemical changes in testicular tissue including carbohydrates, lipids and alkaline phosphatase enzyme changes were evaluated. Materials and Methods: Twenty seven mature male rats after ...

The role of Mycobacterium leprae phenolic glycolipid I (PGL-I) in serodiagnosis and in the pathogenesis of leprosy.

PGL-I (phenolic glycolipid I) emerged in the early 1980s on the one hand as part of intensive efforts to define the typing antigens of a host of Mycobacterium spp. and also from characterisation of the lipids of skin biopsies from highly bacillary positive lepromatous leprosy patients. PGL-I, despite its extreme lipophilicity due to its inherent phthiocerol dimycocerosyl component, is highly an...

Lipid Droplets and Mycobacterium leprae Infection

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease and is a major source of morbidity in developing countries. Leprosy is caused by the obligate intracellular bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, which infects as primary target Schwann cells. Lepromatous leprosy exhibits multiple lesions of the skin, eyes, nerves, and lymph nodes. The sites of infection are characterized by the presence of foamy macrophages, f...

I will discuss my experience for 20 years in the diagnosis and treatment of this form of leprosy...
