چکیده
FiG. 1. Effects of strychnine (100 tcg/kg, i.v.), mephenesin (30 mg/kg), pentobarbital (15 mg/kg), GABA (200 mg/kg) on the reflex response of the right cervical vagus nerve. In each series of record from above downwards : reflex responses to the stimulation of the left cervical vagus, great splanchnic and sciatic nerves. Strychnine (A) augmented and mephenesin (B) reduced mainly the reflex response to the stimulation of the sciatic nerve. Pentobarbital (C) reduced or abolished all reflex responses. However, the third component of response to the vagus nerve stimulation and the first component of response to the great splanchnic nerve stimulation rather resisted. GABA (D) reduced only the third component of response to the vagus nerve stimula tion. Arrow indicates the administration of drug, and white dot supramaximal single shock stimulation on each nerve. Time scale : 50 msec.

Protective effects of an interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin on gastric ischemia/reperfusion: the role of oxidative stress
Objectives:Vagal pathways in gastrointestinal tract are the most important pathways that regulate ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Gastrointestinal tract is one of the important sources of melatonin production. The aim of this study was to investigate probable protective effect of the interaction between vagus nerve and melatonin after I/R. Materials and methods:This study was performed in male rat...
متن کاملEffect of esophagus distension on gastric blood flow, gastrin and somatostatin secretion in rat
Abstract Introduction: There are many studies about the inhibitory effect of the esophageal distention (ED) on gastric motility. Recently, it has been shown that ED decreases the gastric secretions. It is well established that the inhibitory effect of ED is mediated by activation of vago-vagal inhibitory reflex. However, there is not any investigation about the effect of the reflex on the gast...
متن کاملVagus nerve stimulation in the treatment of nervous system disease: a review article
The vagus nerve (VN), the longest cranial nerve and an essential part of the parasympathetic system, connects the central nervous system to respiratory, cardiovascular, immune, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems and is involved in the maintenance of homeostasis by controlling these systems. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is related to any method that would stimulate the vagal nerve via elec...
متن کاملIntramedullary pathways of the vago-vagal reflexes with special reference to those evoked by stimulation of the abdominal vagus.
An electrophysiological study has been made on the central relay pathway of the vago-vagal reflexes with special reference to those evoked by afferent stimulation of the abdominal vagus in cats under chloralose (50mg/kg i.v.) anesthesia. 1. Stimulation of the central cut end of the cervical or thoracic vagus nerve produced three mass reflex discharges in the contralateral cervical vagus nerve. ...
متن کاملThe Inhibitory Effect of Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. on Gastric Acid Output at Basal, Vagotomized and Vagal Stimulated Conditions in Rat
Objective(s) Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam. is a plant widely used in Iranian traditional medicine for gastrointestinal disorders. Several reports have demonstrated antibacterial (Helicobacteria pylori), antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties of Z. clinopodioides. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of aqueous- ethanol extract of Z. clinopodioides on rat’s gastric acid ou...
