Rapid triggering of vocalizations following social interactions

چکیده
Social interactions are multifaceted, composed of interlinked sensorymotor behaviors. The individual significance of each of these correlated components cannot be established without observing the full behavior. Recently, Wesson [1] concluded that rats display their submissive status by lowering sniff rate following face-to-face encounters with a dominant conspecific. How rats can perceive such changes in sniff rate is unclear. We recorded sniffing and vocal production of rats during social interactions. Face-toface encounters with a dominant rat immediately elicited 22 kHz alarm calls in the submissive. The large drop

Maternal Responsiveness and the Development of Directed Vocalizing in Social Interactions
For effective communication, infants must develop the phonology of sounds and the ability to use vocalizations in social interactions. Few studies have examined the development of the pragmatic use of prelinguistic vocalizations, possibly because gestures are considered hallmarks of early pragmatic skill. The current study investigated infant vocal production and maternal responsiveness to exam...
متن کاملResponses to social vocalizations in the inferior colliculus of the mustached bat are influenced by secondary tuning curves.
Neurons in the inferior colliculus (IC) of the mustached bat integrate input from multiple frequency bands in a complex fashion. These neurons are important for encoding the bat's echolocation and social vocalizations. The purpose of this study was to quantify the contribution of complex frequency interactions on the responses of IC neurons to social vocalizations. Neural responses to single to...
متن کاملMeasuring changes in social behavior during a social skills intervention for higher-functioning children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
The social behavior of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder was evaluated weekly over 19 weeks of a social skills training program. Participants' vocalizations were coded as initiating, responding, or other (e.g., self-talk). Participants' interactions were coded as dyadic peer interactions, dyadic leader interactions, interactions with a group of peers, interactions with a gr...
متن کامل1 Social communication in mice – Are there optimal cage conditions ?
Social communication is heavily affected in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. Accordingly, mouse models designed to study the mechanisms leading to these disorders are tested for this phenotypic trait. Test conditions vary between different models, and the effect of these test conditions on the quantity and quality of social interactions and ultrasonic communication is unknown. The pres...
