چکیده

Amongst the activities of the European Commission IST research project MIND [1] is extensive consideration of the multi-homing issues in IP access networks. Analysis of the various multi-homing scenarios reveals diverse aspects of multi-homing relevant to both the operations of the access network as well as the hosts connected to it. The originality of the work presented in this paper is arising from the uniqueness of the multi-homing setup in IP access networks that support terminal mobility such as the one developed in BRAIN [2] project and the adhoc and self-organising network extensions developed in MIND. This paper presents a part of our work on multihoming by showing the required architectural support from the involved network elements and utilisation of the existing general mechanisms for the support of IP connectivity.

Aspects of Multi-Homing in IP Access Networks

This paper presents some results of work in multihoming conducted as part of the MIND [1] project. It contains an overview of the concepts of multi-homing in relevant Internet research as well as the steps used for developing an original perspective on the problem. The uniqueness of the problem is argued to arise from the originality of connectivity scenarios in IP access networks, such as the ...

Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

Performance evaluation of SCTP protocol for Smart Grid environment

Smart Grid Communication network will be a network of networks and with the obvious evolution and acceleration, it is crucial for its success to rely on a solid transmission protocol among its peripherals due to its real time streaming. The SCTP protocol, which was initially designed for transporting signaling messages over IP networks, is now an established in many modern applications. The mai...

Mobile SCTP for IP Mobility Support in All-IP Networks

The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a new transport protocol that is featured multi-streaming and multi-homing. Until now, the two approaches have been considered for IP mobility management: Mobile IP in the network layer and SIP in the application layer scheme. In this paper, we discuss the use of SCTP for IP mobility support in the transport layer. We provide a framework of the...

Always Best Packet Switching: the Mobile VoIP Case Study

Currently, a mobile device equipped with multiple heterogeneous wireless Network Interface Cards (NICs), cannot take fully advantage of its capabilities as the conventional mobility management approach allows it to select and use only one of its NICs at a time. In contrast to this approach, we propose the so-called Always Best Packet Switching (ABPS) model that allows applications to use simult...
