BRIEF REPORT Serum -Glutamyl Transpeptidase Is a Determinant of Insulin Resistance Independently of Adiposity in Pima Indian Children
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results: Hepatic enzymes were positively associated with obesity measures, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR. GGT was additionally associated with serum lipids and white blood cell count. GGT, but not AST or ALT, was a significant determinant of HOMA-IR independently of age, sex, and WT, body mass index, or percent body fat. The model that accounted for the largest portion of the variance in HOMA-IR included WT ( 0.004; P 0.008) and GGT ( 0.20; P 0.004; total R 0.62; P 0.0001).

The Effect of 12 Weeks Resistance Training on FOXO1 Expression in Hepatocytes, Glucose and Insulin in Diabetic Rats- A Brief-Report
Objective: In diabetic patients, hyperglycemia is associated with impaired FOXO signaling pathways in liver cells. This study aimed to determine the effect of resistance training on FOXO1 expression in liver hepatocytes and fasting glucose levels in type 2 diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, type 2 diabetes induced by intraperitoneal injection of nicotinamide-STZ ...
متن کاملAssociation between gamma glutamyl transferase and insulin resistance markers in healthy obese children.
OBJECTIVE To study the relationship of gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) with insulin resistance markers [fasting insulin and Homeostasis Model Assessment of-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)] and to assess the role of GGT as a determinant of insulin resistance in healthy obese children. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fifty healthy obese children (boys and girls with mean age 9.2 +/- 0.73 and 8.8 +/- 0.74 ye...
متن کاملWeight, adiposity, and physical activity as determinants of an insulin sensitivity index in pima Indian children.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether measures of physical activity are related to an insulin sensitivity index ([ISI] 10(4)/fasting insulin x glucose) independent of weight or adiposity in children. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We conducted a longitudinal study of 90 Pima Indian children (39 boys and 51 girls) at 5 and 10 years of age measuring adiposity (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), physical ...
متن کاملHigh serum resistin is associated with an increase in adiposity but not a worsening of insulin resistance in Pima Indians.
Resistin is an adipokine with putative prodiabetogenic properties. Like other hormones secreted by adipose tissue, resistin is being investigated as a possible etiologic link between excessive adiposity and insulin resistance. Although there is growing evidence that circulating levels of this adipokine are proportional to the degree of adiposity, an effect on insulin resistance in humans remain...
متن کاملHematocrit and the incidence of type 2 diabetes in the pima indians.
S everal prospective studies have shown that a high hematocrit (or hemoglobin) predicts type 2 diabetes (1–6). However, the reasons for this association have not been fully explored. Hematocrit has been positively correlated with hyperinsulinemia and conditions associated with insulin resistance such as high blood pressure, elevated serum triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, and central obesity ...
