چکیده

Contracts formally represent agreements between parties and often involve the exchange of goods or services. In contracts, clauses define the behavior expected from parties in terms of deontic statements such as obligation, permission and prohibition. These normative clauses may contain conflicting deontic statements referring to the same party in the same context, producing inconsistencies in the normative structure of the contract. Our main contribution is an approach to detect potential conflicts between norms within contracts written in natural language. We use a rule-based approach and natural language processing, which result in promising empirical results. This constitutes a first step into automated processing of contracts in natural language.

A Deep Learning Approach for Norm Conflict Identification

Regulations are often applied to social members in a society in order to minimize conflicting behaviors [9]. Such regulations, also known as social norms, define expected behaviors for society members [7] and help ensure that individuals act in socially acceptable behavior. Besides regulating entire societies, social norms are also used to regulate interactions in smaller groups, and are often ...

Norm Refinement – Informing the Re-Negotiation of Contracts

Conflicts between norms are a common problem in open Virtual Organisations and has to be dealt with. Norm-governed agents that populate such VO’s can remain operational only if they are able to resolve such conflicts. In this paper, we discuss how norm-governed agents based on the NoA architecture identify such conflicts and how the NoA model of norm conflicts can inform a re-negotiation of con...

Norm Conflicts and Inconsistencies in Virtual Organisations

Organisation-oriented approaches to the formation of multi-agent systems use roles and norms to describe an agent’s social position within an artificial society or Virtual Organisation. Norms are descriptive information for a role – they determine the obligations and social constraints for an agent’s actions. A legal instrument for establishing such norms are contracts signed by agents when the...

Contract Formation through Preemptive Normative Conflict Resolution

We explore a rule-based formalisation for contracts: the rules capture conditional norms, that is, they describe situations arising during the enactment of a multi-agent system, and norms that arise from these situations. However, such rules may establish conflicting norms, that is, norms which simultaneously prohibit and oblige (or prohibit and permit) agents to perform particular actions. We ...

Using Normative Markov Decision Processes for evaluating electronic contracts

Before signing electronic contracts, a rational agent should estimate the expected utilities of these contracts and calculate the violation risks related to them. In order to perform such pre-signing procedures, this agent has to be capable of computing a policy taking into account the norms and sanctions in the contracts. In relation to this, the contribution of this work is threefold. First, ...
