Reliable Broadcast and Multicast in context of partitioning

چکیده
We present two protocols, a distributed reliable broadcast and a distributed reliable multicast; these protocols are resistant to network partitions in asynchronous distributed systems. They are reliable in the sense that the receiver will eventually receive the message even if the receiver was partitioned away at any time. The protocols are aimed either for large scale or smaller networks. We show that our protocols are efficient in respect to the number of messages sent and complexity. We use an unreliable channel detector in conjunction with data forwarding and stability to achieve this goal. We present the pros and cons of broadcast over multicast and show that multicast is not well suited for broadcasting messages in the context of partitions. keywords: reliability, broadcast, multicast, partitionings, routing.

An Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks
The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...

This paper introduces a new probabilistic specification of reliable broadcast communication primitives, called Reliable Broadcast. This specification captures in a precise way the reliability of practical broadcast algorithms that, on the one hand, were devised with some form of reliability in mind but, on the other hand, are not considered reliable according to “traditional” reliability specif...

متن کاملCache Partitioning for Multiple Sessions in Local Loss Recovery of Reliable Multicast
Local loss recovery for reliable multicast can provide significant performance improvement in terms of loss recovery latency, bandwidth consumption and network throughput. Active Reliable Multicast (ARM) is a novel loss recovery scheme for largescale reliable multicast. In ARM, local loss recovery is realized by retrieving repairs at near active routers. In practice, active resources are limite...
