چکیده

An ability to distinguish animate things from inanimate things is essential for our social cognition. In this study, we investigated the differences in brain activity between when interacting with an animate thing and when interacting with an artificial thing. We recorded EventRelated Potentials under two conditions; eight participants reached an animate thing (turtle) (animacy condition) and reached an artificial thing (robot) (nonanimacy condition). We found two differences in ERP patterns between the two conditions: (1) A positive component was elicited (from the beginning of reaching action to 200msec.) only in animacy condition; (2) Higher ERPs amplitudes (200msec. 400msec.) were elicited in animacy condition than in non-animacy condition. Considering previous neuroimaging studies and the temporal property in our result, we speculated that the first effect was associated with the participants animacy attribution and the second effect was associated with their prediction of the movements of animate things.

The Role of Event Related Potentials in Pre-Comprehension Processing of Consumers to Marketing Logos

Background: In human behavior study, by peering directly into the brain and assessing distinct patterns, evoked neurons and neuron spike can be more understandable by taking advantages of accurate brain analysis. Objectives: We investigated the role of Event Related Potentials (ERPs) in pre-comprehension processing of consumers to marketing logos.. Materials & Methods: In the framework of an ...

Top-down and Bottm-up Process of Animacy Perception: An ERP study

We investigated neural mechanism for animacy perception by Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) during reaching action. Participants were asked to observe an object, either of an animate thing (turtle) or an inanimate thing (robot), which was veiled so that they had to judge only by its motions, not appearance, what it was. We compared ERPs between the condition they felt it as animate and the condi...

An electrophysiological analysis of animacy effects in the processing of object relative sentences.

Event-related brain potentials (ERPs) were used to investigate how and when a semantic factor (animacy) affects the early analysis of a difficult syntactic structure, namely, object relative sentences. We contrasted electrophysiological and behavioral responses to two object relative types that were syntactically and lexically identical and varied only in the order of the component animate and ...

Event-related brain potential evidence for animacy processing asymmetries during sentence comprehension.

The animacy distinction is deeply rooted in the language faculty. A key example is differential object marking, the phenomenon where animate sentential objects receive specific marking. We used event-related potentials to examine the neural processing consequences of case-marking violations on animate and inanimate direct objects in Spanish. Inanimate objects with incorrect prepositional case m...

Identification of Error-Related Observations from Event Related Potentials Using Pattern Recognition Techniques

This article presents a comparison of pattern recognition techniques that have been used for the identification of correct or incorrect actions by means of Event Related Potentials (ERPs). ERP data from 47 electrodes were acquired from sixteen volunteers (observers), who observed correct or incorrect responses of subjects (actors) performing a special designed task. First and second order stati...
