Hydrops fetalis. M. J. Becker. Department of Morbid Anatomy, Wilhelmina Gasthuis, Amsterdam. Hydrops fetalis is characterized by an abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in the tissues and body cavities, and infants who show this condition are usually either stillborn or die soon after birth. Hydrops fetalis is not a symptom of a specific disorder, but can be caused by various diseases. In a series of 9 necropsies on hydropic infants various conditions were diagnosed as underlying the hydrops fetalis. Blood group incompatibility occurred in only 2 cases. Hydrops fetalis in the remaining 7 cases was due to syphilis, viral infection, cystic lung disease, premature closure of the ductus arteriosus with hypoplasia of the lungs, aneurysm of the umbilical artery, angiomyxoma of the umbilical cord, and a chorangioma of the placenta. Although bloodgroup incompatibility is the most frequent cause of hydrops fetalis, it does not account for the majority of cases.

متن کاملAskin's Tumour in an Adult, with a Varied Clinical Presentation.
We are reporting a case of Askin's tumour in a 28 year old male, on the right side of the chest wall, with no symptoms and signs of a pulmonary involvement or a distant metastasis. A wide excision of the tumour mass was done. Immunohistochemistry strongly expressed MIC-2. The prognosis of Askin's tumour is poor. An early diagnosis and treatment are important to improve the chances of a survival.
متن کاملResection of a bony tumour of the chest wall with direct reconstruction using a sandwich technique: a standard technique for closure of large chest wall defects
Bony tumours of the chest wall are rare and radical surgical resection forms the cornerstone of treatment. Closure of the defect following radical resection can be challenging. We report the case of a 59-year-old woman with a large tumour of the thoracic wall, which was surgically resected with direct reconstruction using a sandwich technique with a Palacos(®) patch placed in a double-layer Mar...
متن کاملTreatment outcomes in 23 thoracic primitive neuroectodermal tumours: a retrospective study.

Early diagnosis of the tumour by histological, immunohistochemical, ultrastructural and cytogenetic techniques and early total surgical resection of the tumour with intensive chemoradiation may improve outcomes. METHODS Over 30 years, 23 patients (media...
