Thickness of the midventricular left ventricular wall is predictive of survival in different forms of cardiac amyloidosis

چکیده
Background Systemic amyloidosis is a disorder characterized by extracellular deposition of different insoluble protein fibrils in various organs leading to organ dysfunction. Cardiac involvement is associated with limited survival. We aimed to use cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to identify structural and functional alterations related to the different forms of amyloidosis, e. g. hereditary and wild-type transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis as well as light-chain (AL) amyloidosis.

Familial and primary cardiac amyloidosis: echocardiographically similar diseases with distinctly different clinical outcomes.
OBJECTIVE To determine whether patients with myocardial amyloidosis due either to AL (primary) amyloid or familial amyloid have distinguishing echocardiographic or electrocardiographic features; and to compare the prevalence of heart failure and survival in the two types of amyloidosis in relation to echocardiographic findings. DESIGN Blinded group comparison of randomly selected cases of car...
متن کاملComparison of Fetal Echocardiography for Fetal Cardiac Structure in Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Normal Pregnancies
BackgroundIncreased metabolic rate of hyperglycemia in gestational diabetes causes macrosomia, which can also affect the fetal heart. The thickness of the walls of the heart and its function in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can change over time before treatment. We aimed to evaluate fetal cardiac structure in terms of ventricular wall thickness and its function in women w...
متن کاملComparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method
Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia
Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...

Introduction: Cardiovascular abnormalities have been reported in liver cirrhosis (LC). In these patients, cardiac symptoms and physical signs occur as the liver functions worsen. Cirrhosis is associated with hyper dynamic circulation and beta-adrenergic system changes responsible for the cardiovascular abnormalities. The purpose of the present study was to explore the echocardiographic findi...
