چکیده

Abstract. An explicit output-feedback boundary feedback law is introduced that stabilizes an unstable linear constant-coefficient reaction-diffusion equation on an n-ball (which in 2-D reduces to a disk and in 3-D reduces to a sphere) using only measurements from the boundary. The backstepping method is used to design both the control law and a boundary observer. To apply backstepping the system is reduced to an infinite sequence of 1-D systems using spherical harmonics. Well-posedness and stability are proved in the H space. The resulting control and output injection gain kernels are the product of the backstepping kernel used in control of one-dimensional reaction-diffusion equations and a function closely related to the Poisson kernel in the n-ball.

Simulation of Styrene Polymerization in Arbitrary Cross-Sectional Duct Reactors by Boundary-Fitted Coordinate Transformation Method

The non-orthogonal boundary-fitted coordinate transformation method is applied to the solution of steady three-dimensional conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and speciescontinuity to obtain the laminar velocity, temperature and concentration fields for simulation of polymerization of styrene in arbitrary cross-sectional duct reactors. Variable physical properties (except for speci...

Chemical Reaction Effects on Bio-Convection Nanofluid flow between two Parallel Plates in Rotating System with Variable Viscosity: A Numerical Study

In the present work, a mathematical model is developed and analyzed to study the influence of nanoparticle concentration through Brownian motion and thermophoresis diffusion. The governing system of PDEs is transformed into a coupled non-linear ODEs by using suitable variables. The converted equations are then solved by using robust shooting method with the help of MATLAB (bvp4c). The impacts o...

Optimal Boundary Control & Estimation of Diffusion-Reaction PDEs

This paper considers the optimal control and optimal estimation problems for a class of linear parabolic diffusion-reaction partial differential equations (PDEs) with actuators and sensors at the boundaries. Diffusion-reaction PDEs with boundary actuation and sensing arise in a multitude of relevant physical systems (e.g. magneto-hydrodynamic flows, chemical reactors, and electrochemical conver...

Schoenflies spheres as boundaries of bounded unstable manifolds in gradient Sturm systems

Let v be a hyperbolic equilibrium of a smooth finite-dimensional gradient or gradient-like dynamical system. Assume that the unstable manifold W of v is bounded, with topological boundary Σ = ∂W := (closW )\W . Then Σ need not be homeomorphic to a sphere, or to any compact manifold. However, consider PDEs ut = uxx + f(x, u, ux) of Sturm type, i.e. scalar reaction-advection-diffusion equations i...
