Characteristic function estimation of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-based stochastic volatility models

چکیده
Continuous-time stochastic volatility models are becoming increasingly popular in finance because of their flexibility in accommodating most stylized facts of financial time series. However, their estimation is difficult because the likelihood function does not have a closed-form expression. In this paper we propose a characteristic function-based estimation method for non-Gaussian Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-based stochastic volatility models. After deriving explicit expressions of the characteristic functions for various cases of interest we analyze the asymptotic properties of the estimators and evaluate their performance by means of a simulation experiment. Finally, a realdata application shows that the superposition of two Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes gives a good approximation to the dependence structure of the process.

A Multivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Type Stochastic Volatility Model
Using positive semidefinite processes of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type a multivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) type stochastic volatility model is introduced. We derive many important statistical and probabilistic properties, e.g. the complete second order structure and a state-space representation. Noteworthy, many of our results are shown to be valid for the more general class of multivariate stocha...
متن کاملStatistical estimation of multivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes and applications to co-integration
Ornstein-Uhlenbeck models are continuous-time processes which have broad applications in finance as, e.g., volatility processes in stochastic volatility models or spread models in spread options and pairs trading. The paper presents a least squares estimator for the model parameter in a multivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model driven by a multivariate regularly varying Lévy process with infinite v...
متن کاملOption Pricing under Ornstein-uhlenbeck Stochastic Volatility
We consider the problem of option pricing under stochastic volatility models, focusing on the two processes known as exponential Ornstein-Uhlenbeck and Stein-Stein. We show they admit the same limit dynamics in the regime of low fluctuations of the volatility process, under which we derive the expressions of the characteristic function and the first four cumulants for the risk neutral probabili...
متن کاملA Correlated Stochastic Volatility Model Measuring Leverage and Other Stylized Facts
We present a stochastic volatility market model where volatility is correlated with return and is represented by an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. With this model we exactly measure the leverage effect and other stylized facts, such as mean reversion, leptokurtosis and negative skewness. We also obtain a close analytical expression for the characteristic function and study the heavy tails of the p...
متن کاملOrnstein–Uhlenbeck related models driven by Lévy processes
Recently, there has been increasing interest in continuous-time stochastic models with jumps, a class of models which has applications in the fields of finance, insurance mathematics and storage theory, to name just a few. In this chapter we shall collect known results about a prominent class of these continuoustime models with jumps, namely the class of Lévy-driven Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes...
