Diversity of Streptomyces strains causing potato scab disease in Hamedan province and their thaxtomin production potential

چکیده

Hamedan province is one of the main potato growing areas in Iran. Potaoto scab disease caused by Streptomyces spp. is one of the prevalent and important diseases of potato in this provice. Potato tubers with symptoms of scab diseases including raised and deep or shallow pitted lesion were collected from potato growing area in this region. A total of 20 and 25 strains of Streptomyces were isolated from raised and pitted lesions on potato tubers respectively. The pathogenicity of these strains was confirmed on potato mini tubers and mature plants under greenhouse condition. Different isolated scab inducing Streptomyces strains showed diverse of symptoms on potato tubers. Protein electrophoretic profiles of the Archive of SID

Genetic Diversity among Plant Pathogenic Streptomyces Strains from Potato Fields in Northwest of Iran

Different species of Streptomyces are common in most types of soil. Some certain species are plant pathogenic especially on potato. This study was conducted to evaluate genetic diversity among some local Streptomyces spp. strains isolated from soil and infected tubers in potato farms in northwest of Iran. Repetitive DNA elements (BOX, ERIC and REP) as genetic markers were used for diversity stu...

High proportions of nonpathogenic Streptomyces are associated with common scab-resistant potato lines and less severe disease.

Streptomyces isolates were obtained from potato tubers with common scab lesions from 2 fields over a 3 year period in Minnesota and a 5 year period in Maine. Isolates were obtained from different potato cultivars or breeding lines and types of scab lesions. A majority of isolates could be classified as putative pathogens based on the presence of genes for biosynthesis of the pathogenicity deter...

A survey of genetic variation in streptomyces isolates causing potato common scab in the United States.

ABSTRACT Common scab is a serious disease of potatoes and other root and tuber crops, affecting crop quality and market value. The disease is caused by gram positive soil bacteria in the genus Streptomyces. Disease incidence and severity vary in different locations and years; this is due in part to variation in the environment (weather) and genetic variation in potato cultivars. Little informat...

An Arabidopsis mutant resistant to thaxtomin A, a cellulose synthesis inhibitor from Streptomyces species.

Thaxtomin A is a phytotoxin produced by Streptomyces scabies and other Streptomyces species, the causative agents of common scab disease in potato and other taproot crops. At nanomolar concentrations, thaxtomin causes dramatic cell swelling, reduced seedling growth, and inhibition of cellulose synthesis in Arabidopsis. We identified a mutant of Arabidopsis, designated txr1, that exhibits increa...

Horizontal transfer of the plant virulence gene, nec1, and flanking sequences among genetically distinct Streptomyces strains in the Diastatochromogenes cluster.

Evidence for the horizontal transfer of a pathogenicity island (PAI) carrying the virulence gene nec1 and flanking sequences among Streptomyces strains in the Diastatochromogenes cluster is presented. Plant-pathogenic, thaxtomin-producing Streptomyces strains, previously classified as S. scabiei based on the conventionally used phenotypic characteristics, were found to be genetically distinct f...
