Lime-Induced Chlorosis

چکیده

Lime-induced iron chlorosis in citrus and avocado trees may be controlled by chelating agents, such as EDTA-ethylene-diaminetetraacetic acid. Chelating agents have the ability to form complex compounds with metal ions-iron, zinc, manganese, and magnesium-holding the metals in a soluble form in various degrees of tenacity. Iron is held most firmly and, for this reason, the prospects may be best for the control of iron chlorosis-perhaps the most difficult nutrient deficiency to correct. EDTA has the ability to hold iron as a chelated complex in acid, neutral, and, to a certain extent, in mildly alkaline and calcareous soils. It has proved successful in soil applications in correcting iron deficiency, mostly in the glasshouse, on several plant species including citrus, avocado, azalea, macadamia, and Leptospermum. Several species of chlorotic trees and shrubs in calcareous soil the field have become green following soil applications. Care must be taken in making soil applications of EDTA. Some plantscitrus, avocado, azalea, macadamia, Leptospermum, and corn-were severely burned by large applications.

Comparison of Foliar and Soil Fe Fertilization on Medicago scutellata Physiological-Biochemical Characteristics and Active Iron in Soils Containing Different Amounts of Lime

Reducing iron solubility in calcareous soils causes iron chlorosis symptoms in the plant. In order to investigate the response of M. scutellata to direct and indirect iron deficiency, a factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications. The experimental factors included three levels of lime (0, 4 and 8%) and five levels of Fe (0, 5 and 10 mg Fe Kg soil...

Chlorosis in higher plants as related to organic acid content.

In recent years comparative studies have been made betwveen chlorotic plants and healthy plants to determine if any consistent distortion of the normal metabolic pattern occurs irrespective of the cause of chlorosis. Experiments by Iljin (6) indicated a greater amino acid and organic acid content in chlorotic leaves from grape plants grown on calcareous soil than in normal green leaves. DeKock ...

Dark CO2 Fixation in Avocado Roots, Leaves, and Fruit

In a previous study avocado roots fixed CO2 about as rapidly as orange and lemon roots but much slower than bean roots (2). However, homogenates of avocado roots or leaves did not fix CO2. This study was made to explore reasons for the failure of homogenates of avocado to show CO2 fixation, and also to understand more of the relatively low degree of CO2 fixation by avocado roots in. case it may...

Tolerance to Lime - Induced Chlorosis and Drought in Grapevine Rootstocks

Many woody crop plants such as grapevine are traditionally grown with scion varieties grafted onto rootstocks. The selection of an appropriate rootstock provides a powerful tool to manage the growth and fruiting of the scion (Jones, 2012). In the grapevine propagation, the use of rootstocks is not a new matter. The evidence of the use of rootstocks can be found out even in works written by the ...
