Touch Shadow Interaction and Continuous Directional User Interface for Smartphone
نویسندگان
چکیده
We propose a new touch screen interaction named as Touch Shadow, which is based on the contact area and the resultant shape of the fingertip when it touches the touch surface. The results of our feasibility evaluation established three degrees of freedom for the Touch Shadow interaction based on three fundamental parameters, the touch surface area, displacement of the touch centroid and direction of the press. For this interaction, we designed several user interface options that can support continuous interaction. Based on the review feedback from 6 UI designers, we finally selected three of them, the Bubble Shadow, Rectangular Shadow and Beam Shadow for user evaluation. A proof of concept prototype was developed for Android smartphones and was tested with 10 users for maps application scenario. The participants rated the experience of using Touch Shadow with continuous direction UI on the map to be high.

While touch interfaces have become more popular, they are still mostly confined to mobile platforms such as smart phones and notebooks. Mouse interfaces still dominate desktop platforms due to their portability, ergonomic design and large number of possible interactions. In this paper we present a prototype for a new interface based on cheap consumer-level hardware, which combines advantages of...

This study is to examine UX design patterns depending on touch gestures on smart-phones for mobile web service. As for user experiences regarding touch gestures on a smart-phone, directional motions such as horizontal or vertical movements were more frequent than zoon-in/out and rotation, and such motions were often combined for navigation and invitation functions. Dragging was directional both...
متن کاملInterface Psychology: Touchscreens Change Attribute Importance, Decision Criteria, and Behavior in Online Choice
As the rise of tablets and smartphones move the dominant interface for digital content from mouse or trackpad to direct touchscreen interaction, work is needed to explore the role of interfaces in shaping psychological reactions to online content. This research explores the role of direct-touch interfaces in product search and choice, and isolates the touch element from other form factor change...
متن کاملTowards Continuous and Passive Authentication via Touch Biometrics: An Experimental Study on Smartphones
Current smartphones generally cannot continuously authenticate users during runtime. This poses severe security and privacy threats: A malicious user can manipulate the phone if bypassing the screen lock. To solve this problem, our work adopts a continuous and passive authentication mechanism based on a user’s touch operations on the touchscreen. Such a mechanism is suitable for smartphones, as...

The latest smartphones with GPS, electronic compasses, directional audio, touch screens, and so forth, hold a potential for location-based services that are easier to use and that let users focus on their activities and the environment around them. Rather than interpreting maps, users can search for information by pointing in a direction and database queries can be created from GPS location and...
