Spatial CUSUM Chart Based Method for Rapid Detection of Outbreaks
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Since the release of anthrax in October of 2001, there has been increased interest in developing efficient prospective disease surveillance schemes. Poisson CUSUM is a control chart-based method that has been widely used to detect aberrations in disease counts in a single region collected over fixed time intervals. Over the past few years, different methods have been proposed to extend Poisson CUSUM charts to capture the spatial association among several regions simultaneously. In the proposed method, we extend an algorithm2 in industrial process control using multiple Poisson CUSUM charts to the spatial setting. The spatial association among regions is captured using the method proposed by Raubertas3, which has been successfully applied in several prospective surveillance schemes. Also, to improve the power of the traditional multiple Poisson CUSUM charts, Poisson CUSUM charts were used along with fault discovery rate (FDR) control techniques2.

Background and Objectives: Correct and timely detection of the outbreaks of diseases with a short incubation period is of great importance in the health system. The aim of this study was to determine the detection of dysentery outbreaks using the cumulative sum method. Methods: This time series study was conducted using the data of the National Surveillance System between 2014 and 2017. The...

Background & Objectives: Timely response to emerging diseases and outbreaks are a major public health and health systems priority. There are few published studies that evaluate the performance of cumulative sum (CUSUM) on identical data using semi- synthetic simulation approach. This study was undertaken to determine the performance of the CUSUM in timely detection of 831 days of simulated outb...
متن کاملEnhanced Cumulative Sum Charts for Monitoring Process Dispersion
The cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart is widely used in industry for the detection of small and moderate shifts in process location and dispersion. For efficient monitoring of process variability, we present several CUSUM control charts for monitoring changes in standard deviation of a normal process. The newly developed control charts based on well-structured sampling techniques - extreme r...
متن کاملOptimal Design of a CUSUM Chart for a Mean Shift of Unknown Size
A cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart is one of the most popular methods used to detect a process mean shift. When one specific size of the mean shift is assumed, the CUSUM chart can be optimally designed in terms of average run length (ARL). In practice, however, the size of the mean shift is usually unknown, and the CUSUM chart can perform poorly when the actual size of the mean shift is sig...
متن کاملA two-sided Bernoulli-based CUSUM control chart with autocorrelated observations
Usually, in monitoring a proportion p < /em>, the binary observations are considered independent; however, in many real cases, there is a continuous stream of autocorrelated binary observations in which a two-state Markov chain model is applied with first-order dependence. On the other hand, the Bernoulli CUSUM control chart which is not robust to autocorrelation can be applied two-sided co...
