Cost-effective anaesthesia for outpatient arthroscopic surgery: Desflurane versus propofol?
نویسندگان
چکیده
We compared desflurane to propofol as the main anaesthetic in a balanced anaesthetic technique during elective arthroscopic day-case procedures with special reference to cost-effectiveness. A total of 80 ASA classification I patients were studied in a prospective randomised fashion. Surgery and anaesthesia were uneventful in all cases. Time spent in the recovery room and time to discharge was equal between the two techniques, desflurane and propofol. The estimated cost for desflurane maintenance was 40.5 SEK as compared to 114 SEK for a propofol maintenance (P < 0.01). DesfIurane was found to be a cost-effective alternative to propofol for day-case anaesthesia.

Cost-effective anaesthesia for outpatient arthroscopic knee surgery: spinal, desflurane, isoflurane or propofol anaesthesia?
Spinal anaesthesia (SA) is widely used in day surgery because it is easy and cheap. But how cheap is SA really, when compared to modern general anaesthesia with short-acting agents? The aim of this study was to compare SA to three modes of general anaesthesia in terms of the total costs of anaesthesia during outpatient knee arthroscopy (KA). There were 173 patients scheduled for elective KA ran...

This study compared the costs of desflurane and propofol as maintenance anesthetic agents in outpatient surgery. Recovery time and related drug expenses were included in the cost comparison. Fifty-three ASA physical status I and II patients were randomly assigned to receive a maintenance anesthetic of either desflurane with 50% nitrous oxide or propofol with 50% nitrous oxide. All patients rece...

متن کاملCost minimisation and cost effectiveness in anaesthesia for total hip replacement surgery, in Belgium? A study comparing three general anaesthesia techniques.
The aim of the prospective randomised study is to compare the cost effectiveness of three general anaesthesia techniques for total hip replacement surgery and the cost minimisation by use of anaesthetics. For induction propofol was used in the three techniques. For maintenance, we used desflurane, or sevoflurane, or propofol. There was no significant difference in consumption of drugs for pain ...

BACKGROUND The goal of this study was to compare the influence of an interscalene brachial plexus block (ISB) performed with either bupivacaine or levobupivacaine in conjunction with general anaesthesia (GA) on desflurane consumption, which was titrated to maintain the recovery profiles and postoperative analgesia while also keeping the bispectral index score (BIS) between 40 and 60 in patients...
