چکیده

This paper presents a pole-zero model based on a multi-tube acoustic model for fricative sounds. This model consists of the front and back cavity formed by oral tract and pharynx, in which the excitation source is located at the point of constriction. The transfer function of this model including poles and zeros is derived and its properties are investigated. Small losses such as viscous friction which is an important for the fricative sound in the vocal tract are considered and the results show, if the vocal tract is lossless, the numerator part of the pole-zero model is symmetric. The transfer function with small losses overcomes the limitation of the symmetry. This method is applied by employing the inverse ltering and an adaptive algorithm to analyse fricative sounds.

Modeling of a speech production system based on MRI measurement of three-dimensional vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation

This study, based on the measurement of three-dimensional (3-D) vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation, presents a realistic modeling of a human speech production system. The 3-D shapes of a vocal tract and a dental crown were measured using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). A male subject was asked to produce the fricatives /s/ and /6/ while wearing a dental crown plate that c...

Comparison of Fricative Vocal Tract Transfer Functions Derived using Two Different Segmentation Techniques

The acoustic and articulatory properties of fricative speech sounds are being studied using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and acoustic recordings from a single subject. Area functions were derived from a complete set of axial and coronal MR slices using two different methods: the Mermelstein technique and the Blum transform. Area functions derived from the two techniques were shown to differ...

Faster 3d vocal tract real-time MRI using constrained reconstruction

Real-time magnetic resonance imaging (rtMRI) is a valuable emerging tool for studying the dynamics of vocal production. Conventional 2D rtMRI typically images the midsagittal plane of the vocal tract, acquiring data from all the important articulators. Dynamic 3D MRI would be a major advance, as it would provide 3D visualization of the vocal tract shaping dynamics, especially for the modeling o...

Estimation of voice source and vocal tract parameters using combined subspace-based and amplitude spectrum-based algorithm

In this paper, a high quality pole-zero speech analysis technique is proposed. The speech production process is represented by a source-filter model. A Rosenberg-Klatt model is used to approximate a voicing source waveform for voiced speech, whereas a white noise is assumed for unvoiced. The vocal tract transfer function is represented by a pole-zero filter. For voiced speech, parameters of the...

A vocal-tract model of American English /l/.

The production of the lateral sounds involves airflow paths around the tongue produced by the laterally inward movement of the tongue toward the midsagittal plane. If contact is made with the palate, a closure is formed in the flow path along the midsagittal line. The effects of the lateral channels on the sound spectrum are not clear. In this study, a vocal-tract model with parallel lateral ch...
