Specifying Angular Momentum and Center of Mass for Vacuum Initial Data Sets

چکیده
We show that it is possible to perturb arbitrary vacuum asymptotically flat spacetimes to new ones having exactly the same energy and linear momentum, but with center of mass and angular momentum equal to any preassigned values measured with respect to a fixed affine frame at infinity. This is in contrast to the axisymmetric situation where a bound on the angular momentum by the mass has been shown to hold for black hole solutions. Our construction involves changing the solution at the linear level in a shell near infinity, and perturbing to impose the vacuum constraint equations. The procedure involves the perturbation correction of an approximate solution which is given explicitly.

Conserved Quantities in General Relativity: from the Quasi-local Level to Spatial Infinity
We define quasi-local conserved quantities in general relativity by using the optimal isometric embedding in [28] to transplant Killing fields in the Minkowski spacetime back to the 2-surface of interest in a physical spacetime. To each optimal isometric embedding, a dual element of the Lie algebra of the Lorentz group is assigned. Quasi-local angular momentum and quasi-local center of mass cor...
متن کاملangular-momentum, and charge inequalities for axisymmetric initial data
We present the key elements of the proof of an upper bound for angular-momentum and charge in terms of the mass for electro-vacuum asymptotically flat axisymmetric initial data sets with simply connected orbit space.
متن کاملMass and angular-momentum inequalities for axi-symmetric initial data sets. II. Angular momentum
We extend the validity of Dain’s angular-momentum inequality to maximal, asymptotically flat, initial data sets on a simply connected manifold with several asymptotically flat ends which are invariant under a U(1) action and which admit a twist potential.
متن کاملProof of the angular momentum-mass inequality for axisymmetric black holes
We prove that extreme Kerr initial data set is a unique absolute minimum of the total mass in a (physically relevant) class of vacuum, maximal, asymptotically flat, axisymmetric data for Einstein equations with fixed angular momentum. These data represent nonstationary, axially symmetric, black holes. As a consequence, we obtain that any data in this class satisfy the inequality √ J ≤ m, where ...
متن کاملA variational principle for stationary, axisymmetric solutions of Einstein’s equations
Stationary, axisymmetric, vacuum, solutions of Einstein’s equations are obtained as critical points of the total mass among all axisymmetric and (t, φ) symmetric initial data with fixed angular momentum. In this variational principle, the mass is written as a positive definite integral over a spacelike hypersurface. It is also proved that if an absolute minimum exists then it is equal to the ab...
