Sonifying Ecog Seizure Data with Overtone Mapping: a Strategy for Creating Auditory Gestalt from Correlated Multichannel Data

چکیده
This paper introduces a mapping method, overtone mapping, that projects multichannel time-series data onto a harmonic-series structure. Because of the common-fate effect of the Gestalt principle, correlated signals are perceived as a unity, while uncorrelated signals are perceived as segregated. This method is first examined with sonification of simple, generic data sets. Then overtone mapping is applied to sonification of the ECoG data of an epileptic seizure episode. The relationship between the gestalt formation and the correlation in the data across channels is discussed in detail using a reduced 16 channel data set. Finally, sonification of a 56channel ECoG data set is provided to demonstrate the advantage of the overtone mapping.

Quantifying Auditory Event-Related Responses in Multichannel Human Intracranial Recordings
Multichannel intracranial recordings are used increasingly to study the functional organization of human cortex. Intracranial recordings of event-related activity, or electrocorticography (ECoG), are based on high density electrode arrays implanted directly over cortex, combining good temporal and spatial resolution. Developing appropriate statistical methods for analyzing event-related respons...

Electrocochleography (ECoG) records the electrophysiologic activity of the most peripheral part of the auditory system, the inner ear cochlea and the 8th nerve. Auditory evoked potentials being recorded are Cochlear Microphonic (CM) and Summating Potential (AP). In order to provide the proper background for laboratory research and introducing an ECoG curve of a model animal, it was decided to...
متن کاملA New Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous (NARX)-Based Intra-Spinal Stimulation Approach to Decode Brain Electrical Activity for Restoration of Leg Movement in Spinally-Injured Rabbits
This study aims at investigation of stimulation by using intra-spinal signals decoded from electrocorticography (ECoG) assessments to restore the movements of the leg in an animal model of spinal cord injury (SCI). The present work comprised of three steps. First, ECoG signals and the associated leg joint changes (hip, knee, and ankle) in sedated healthy rabbits were recorded in different trial...
متن کاملEEG-fMRI correlation patterns in the presurgical evaluation of focal epilepsy: A comparison with electrocorticographic data and surgical outcome measures
EEG-correlated functional MRI (EEG-fMRI) visualizes brain regions associated with interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs). This technique images the epileptiform network, including multifocal, superficial and deeply situated cortical areas. To understand the role of EEG-fMRI in presurgical evaluation, its results should be validated relative to a gold standard. For that purpose, EEG-fMRI data...
متن کاملSynchronization clusters of interictal activity in the lateral temporal cortex of epileptic patients: intraoperative electrocorticographic analysis.
OBJECTIVE Drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) can be treated by tailored surgery guided by electrocorticography (ECoG). Although its value is still controversial, ECoG activity can provide continuous information on intracortical interactions that may be useful to understand the pathophysiology of TLE. The goal of this study is to characterize local interactions in multichannel ECoG reco...
