Determination of citrulline in plasma.

چکیده
THE ONLY METHOD available at present for the routine determination of citrulline in blood is the one first described by Archibald (1). This method is based on the original observation of Fearon (2) that in strongly acid solution citrulline condenses with diacetylmonoxime (DAM) to produce a peach-colored complex. Since urea also reacts with DAM under these conditions, Archibald removed it by incubating the blood sample with urease. Elodi (3) modified the method by adding phenylhydrazine to the reaction mixture. He reported that with this modification citrulline and urea could be determined in the presence of each other by measuring the absorption of the reaction mixture at two different wave lengths. However, all of his determinations seem to have been carried out at concentrations very much higher than those present in blood. Pearl and McDermott (4) slightly modified the method of Archibald by changing volume relationship during the dialysis step. The purpose of the present study was to devise a precise method for the determination of citrulline in plasma which would eliminate the tedious dialysis step, and if possible modify the color reaction so that the product would obey Beer’s law.

Effects of L-citrulline on Oxidative Stress Markers Following High Intensity Interval Exercises in Hypertensive Patients
Background and Objectives: High blood pressure affects nearly 30% of adults. Inactivity and low intake of antioxidants are associated with increased risks of high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. High intensity interval exercise increases blood pressure and oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of L-citrulline consumption on oxidative stress and antio...
متن کاملCitrulline and intestinal fatty acid-binding protein: longitudinal markers of postweaning small intestinal function in pigs?
The objective of the current study was to investigate whether plasma citrulline or intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (I-FABP) concentrations might be used as longitudinal markers for small intestinal function in piglets after weaning. Plasma citrulline and I-FABP concentrations were measured longitudinally in weaned and unweaned piglets, and related to intestinal absorption values (i.e., pl...
متن کاملComparison of inducible nitric oxide synthase activity in pancreatic islets of young and aged rats
Objective(s):Some pathologic situations such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome are associated with alternation in nitric oxide level. Incidence of these condition increases with aging. On the other hand, insulin secretion is modulated by nitric oxide, and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity is also altered in diabetes. In this study, modification in the enzyme activity associated with aging a...
متن کاملEffects of Citrulline on Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Randomized-controlled Clinical Trial
Background and Objectives: Citrulline (cit.) is a non-essential amino acid derived from watermelon, which affects improving glucose tolerance and lipid and energy metabolisms. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of citrulline supplementation on non-alcoholic fatty liver. Materials & Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 50 patients with NAFLD were randomly assigned to recei...
متن کاملColorimetric measurement of ornithine carbamoyl transferase activity in plasma, and results for a supposedly healthy population.
Determination of ornithine carbamoyl transferase (EC 2.1.3.3) activity in plasma is important for detection of liver diseases. The assay established in this paper has been made optimum. A blank is needed containing both substrates, carbamoyl phosphate and ornithine. We used a new colorimetric assay, based on a complex with a phosphoferric-antipyrine reagent and diacetyl monoxime, to measure the...
