Lung effect on the hemodynamics in pulmonary artery

چکیده
The present study investigates blood flow in a pulmonary artery. The aim is to gain a better understanding of offset value in vascular circulation through a two-dimensional analysis of the Navier– Stokes equations. In this study, the hemodynamics in a blood vessel with truncated outlets at which constant pressure is specified is examined. To simplify the analysis, the vessel walls are regarded as being rigid. In quadratic elements, the streamline upwind Petrov–Galerkin finite element model is employed to simulate the incompressible Newtonian blood flow. The adopted finite element model introduces artificial damping terms solely in the streamline direction. With these terms added to the formulation, the discrete system is enhanced while solution accuracy is maintained without deterioration due to numerical diffusion errors. Sustained Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction in the Isolated Perfused Rat Lung: Effect of α1-adrenergic Receptor Agonist
Background: Alveolar hypoxia induces monophasic pulmonary vasoconstriction in vivo, biphasic vasoconstriction in the isolated pulmonary artery, and controversial responses in the isolated perfused lung. Pulmonary vascular responses to sustained alveolar hypoxia have not been addressed in the isolated perfused rat lung. In this study, we investigated the effect of sustained hypoxic ventilation o...
متن کاملStatins and Pulmonary Hypertension in Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease
Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) is a chronic multisystem disease with a considerable burden. One of its most common complications is pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). It has been demonstrated that the development of PAH is correlated with decreased quality of life and survival. Different medications have been proposed for the treatment of PAH, among which one can name statins. Howeve...

Objective(s): To study the effect of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-кB) and cytokine expression and pulmonary function in dogs. Materials and Methods: Twelve male mongrel dogs were divided into a methylprednisolone group (group M) and a control group (group C). All animals underwent aortic and right atrial catheterization under general anesthesia. Changes in pulmonar...
متن کاملPulmonary Artery Agenesis with Bronchial Asthma
Unilateral Pulmonary Artery Agenesis (UPAA) is a rare congenital anomaly during the 4 th week of gestational age. It is defined as an absence of pulmonary parenchyma and its supporting artery. A 9-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital because of chronic cough. Chest examination showed a decrement in lung sound of right hemi-thorax with expiratory wheeze. Chest radiography (CXR) revealed a...
متن کاملThe Interaction between Trolox and 4,4’-diisothiocyanatostilbene-2,2’-disulfonic Acid on Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction in the Isolated Rabbit Lung
Background: The mechanism of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) is still debatable. It has been proposed that reactive oxygen species (ROS) might be involved in HPV. However, there is no special transporter for superoxide anion in the cell membrane and it may release from the cells via anion exchanger. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the interaction of ROS and anion ex...
متن کاملPulmonary Vascular Effects of Vasodilators JAP-00083-2005.R1 1 Potent Effects of Aerosol Compared to Intravenous Treprostinil on the Pulmonary Circulation
Inhaled vasodilator therapy for pulmonary hypertension may decrease the systemic side effects commonly observed with systemic administration. Inhaled medications only reach ventilated areas of the lung so local vasodilation may improve ventilation/perfusion matching and oxygenation. We compared the effects of intravenous versus aerosolized treprostinil on pulmonary and systemic hemodynamics in ...
