Some Extremai Results on Circles Containing Points

چکیده

We define II(n) to be the largest number such that for every set P of n points in the plane, there exist two points x, y e P, where every circle containing x and y contains H(n) points of P. We establish lower and upper bounds for H(n) and show that [n/27J + 2 ~ H ( n ) < [ n / 4 ] + l . We define I~I(n) for the special case where the n points are restricted to be the vertices of a convex polygon. We show that l~(n)= [ n / 3 ] + l .

We prove that the lattice points on the circles x2 + y2 = n are well distributed for most circles containing lattice points.

Models of Hyperbolic and Euclidean Geometry

The goal of this handout is to discuss models of Hyperbolic and Euclidean Geometry, and the consistency of Hyperbolic Geometry. 1. Some concepts from Euclidean Geometry We will use circles in Euclidean Geometry to build up models for Hyperbolic Geometry. So we will review some basic facts about circles. (Mostly without proofs). In this section assume that we are working in Euclidean Geometry. D...

Equioptic Points of a Triangle

The locus of points where two non-concentric circles c1 and c2 are seen under equal angles is the equioptic circle e. The equioptic circles of the excircles of a triangle ∆ have a common radical axis r. Therefore the excircles of a triangle share up to two real points, i.e., the equioptic points of ∆ from which the circles can be seen under equal angles. The line r carries a lot of known triang...

On Sets Defining Few Ordinary Circles

An ordinary circle of a set P of n points in the plane is defined as a circle that contains exactly three points of P. We show that if P is not contained in a line or a circle, then P spans at least [Formula: see text] ordinary circles. Moreover, we determine the exact minimum number of ordinary circles for all sufficiently large n and describe all point sets that come close to this minimum. We...

Interpreting Line Drawings as Three-Dimensional Surfaces

We propose a computationai modei for interpreting iine drawings as three-dimensionai surfaces, based on constraints on iocai surface orientation aiong extremai and discontinuity boundaries. Specific techniques are described for two key processes: recovering the threedimensionai conformation of a space curve (e.g., a surface boundary) from its two-dimensionai projection in an image, and interpoi...
