چکیده

Introduction: Every year 21.6 million women die due to unsafe abortions most of which are conducted unethically. Out of this 21.6 million women, 18.5 million women die alone in the developing countries and a further 47,000 women from complications of unsafe abortions each year. According to WHO, close to 13% of unsafe abortions is the main cause of all maternal deaths. (http://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/topics/unsafe_abortion/magnitude/en/)

Intra-uterine fetal demise caused by amniotic band syndrome after standard amniocentesis.

The amniotic band syndrome represents a prime example of exogenous disruption of an otherwise normal fetal development. It may be a sequel of invasive diagnostic procedures such as amniocentesis or fetal blood sampling. A 38-year-old gravida II, para II delivered a morphologically normal male stillborn at term. The pregnancy history had been unremarkable but for an early 2nd-trimester amniocent...

Nutritional intra-amniotic therapy increases survival in a rabbit model of fetal growth restriction

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the perinatal effects of a prenatal therapy based on intra-amniotic nutritional supplementation in a rabbit model of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). METHODS IUGR was surgically induced in pregnant rabbits at gestational day 25 by ligating 40-50% of uteroplacental vessels of each gestational sac. At the same time, modified-parenteral nutrition solution (containing...

Weekly Intra-Amniotic IGF-1 Treatment Increases Growth of Growth-Restricted Ovine Fetuses and Up-Regulates Placental Amino Acid Transporters

Frequent treatment of the growth-restricted (IUGR) ovine fetus with intra-amniotic IGF-1 increases fetal growth. We aimed to determine whether increased growth was maintained with an extended dosing interval and to examine possible mechanisms. Pregnant ewes were allocated to three groups: Control, and two IUGR groups (induced by placental embolization) treated with weekly intra-amniotic injecti...

Intra-amniotic Candida albicans infection induces mucosal injury and inflammation in the ovine fetal intestine

Chorioamnionitis is caused by intrauterine infection with microorganisms including Candida albicans (C.albicans). Chorioamnionitis is associated with postnatal intestinal pathologies including necrotizing enterocolitis. The underlying mechanisms by which intra-amniotic C.albicans infection adversely affects the fetal gut remain unknown. Therefore, we assessed whether intra-amniotic C.albicans i...

Differential regulation of igf1 and igf1r mRNA levels in the two hepatic lobes following intrauterine growth restriction and its treatment with intra-amniotic insulin-like growth factor-1 in ovine fetuses.

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) has life-long health implications, yet there is no effective prenatal treatment. Daily intra-amniotic administration of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 to IUGR fetal sheep improves fetal gut maturation but suppresses hepatic igf1 gene expression. Fetal hepatic blood supply is regulated, in part, by shunting of oxygen- and nutrient-rich umbilical venous ...
