چکیده

Multihoming and mobility protocols enable computing devices to stay always best connected (ABC) to the Internet. The focus of our study is on handover latency and rehoming time required by such protocols. We used simulations in OMNeT++ to study the performance of the following protocols that support multihoming, mobility or a combination thereof: Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), Multiple Care-of Address Registration (MCoA), Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP), and Host Identity Protocol (HIP). Our results indicate that HIP shows best performance in all scenarios considered. Keywords-IPv6; mobility; multihoming; performance.

Mobility and Multihoming Management and Strategies

Abstract—Future IPv6 mobile terminals will be equipped with several wireless network interfaces in order to take full advantage of heterogeneous technologies. However, the usage of multiple interfaces is not straight forward, and requires some support. Yet, mobility and multihoming support has been provided by different protocols. In this paper we study the management of both of them through a ...

Signaling cost and performance of SIGMA: A seamless handover scheme for data networks

Mobile IP has been developed to handle mobility of Internet hosts at the network layer. Mobile IP, however, suffers from a number of drawbacks such as requirement of infrastructure change, high handover latency, high packet loss rate, and conflict with network security solutions. In this paper, we describe and evaluate the performance of SIGMA, a Seamless IP diversity based Generalized Mobility...

Considerations on the Application of the Level 3 Multihoming Shim Protocol for IPv6 (Shim6)

This document discusses some considerations on the applicability of the level 3 multihoming Shim protocol for IPv6 (Shim6) and associated support protocols and mechanisms to provide site multihoming capabilities in IPv6.

Virtual ID: ID/locator split in a mobile IP environment for mobility, multihoming and location privacy for the next generation wireless networks

Current networking protocols designed around single interface stationary end-systems clearly fail to represent the present communication context of mobile, multi-interface end-systems. Also, the convergence of wired and wireless technologies into an all-IP (AIP) next generation network will make available multiple diversified contexts that can be leveraged for better fault tolerance, higher ava...

Analysis of Multihoming in Network Mobility Support

This document is an analysis of multihoming in the context of network mobility (NEMO) in IPv6. As there are many situations in which mobile networks may be multihomed, a taxonomy is proposed to classify the possible configurations. The possible deployment scenarios of multihomed mobile networks are described together with the associated issues when network mobility is supported by RFC 3963 (NEM...
